I worked in finance before coming to Kellogg. I liked what I was doing, but I didn’t want a career that focused solely on finance. My interests are broader. Someday, I’d like to possibly own a restaurant – or several. Owning a business demands more than knowing finance. I wanted to master the strategic, marketing and analytical components that are mandatory for business success.
I attended Day at Kellogg, a weekend dedicated to admitted candidates and totally coordinated by students. As I talked with people who were my potential classmates, I was aware of the intriguing conversations, the overall authenticity. I knew I chose the right place. I’ve always gone after what I’ve wanted, and I wanted to do a lot here. I positioned myself to be a student leader, and pushed myself with every opportunity. I intentionally sought out situations that would stretch my mind and blaze new trails. In return, I’m busier now than I was in the corporate days, but it’s a different kind of busy. I have control over the “busy-ness” now. I’m more vocal and passionate about things now because of the classroom situations I’ve been in, the people I’ve met, the life-changing moments I’ve encountered. I know I’m always going to have to work hard, but being at Kellogg set me up to remember what I’ve enjoyed most as a student: Be open to anything. You can experience everything.
