Add/Drop Overview
During web registration, you can add yourself to sections
that have open seats. For sections that have no available
seats, you can add yourself to the bottom of the wait
list. You will automatically be promoted from the wait
list (during the web registration period) whenever there
is a drop from the course.
Kellogg
students enrolled in the Part-Time MBA Program can enroll
for a maximum of 2 classes per quarter. In addition,
two is also the maximum number of wait listed courses.
The Auto-Drop feature associated with the wait list
allows you to select a course to drop if you are promoted
from the wait list. If you do not select a course to
be dropped and you are enrolled in two courses, you
will be passed over if the wait list class becomes available.
If
you register for only 1 class, there is no need to pick
an auto drop course. Once you add your name to a wait
listed class, you will be automatically promoted from
the wait list if a space becomes available. If you register
for 2 classes, you must select a registered course to
drop in order to be promoted from the wait list and
added to the class.
The
wait list option in the web registration system will
only work during the web registration period. If you
want to be added to a wait list after that time, you
should contact the Part-Time MBA Program office. In
addition, after the web registration period has ended,
all promotions from wait lists to class rosters will
be processed by the Part-Time MBA Program registration
staff.
Wait List/Auto-Drop
This feature is only available the week
of web registration (all waitlists are managed manually
by the Registrar once web registration has concluded)
This
option allows you to view your wait list positions;
it also allows you to drop from the wait lists. The
"Auto Drops" button is located on the left
navigation bar. Adding to a wait list is under the option
to 'Add Course or Wait List'.
Auto-Drop
This option is available on the "Wait
List/Auto-Drop" page. Use the drop down feature
to select the enrollment you wish to drop if a seat
becomes available in the waitlisted course. Press "Submit"
to finalize your selection.
The
same registered course can be the drop candidate for
both of the wait list positions. However, the first
course that gets auto-promoted will be the only one
to use the 'Auto Drop' facility.
Drop
Courses
'Drop
Course' button is available on the display of the enrolled
courses.
Automatic
Promotion From the Wait List
When
a student drops a course that has a wait list (during
the web registration period), the first person on the
wait list will automatically get promoted into the class.
The system will only allow two registered courses. Therefore
it is important to have an auto drop candidate for each
Wait Listed course. The system has a limit of two wait
list positions held.

Add/Drop FAQ
Q:
How do I get on the registration wait list?
A: Navigate to the "Add/Drop Classes" page
and click the "Search for Classes" button.
If the course selected has zero seats available and
you want to place yourself on the wait list, click
"Enroll" to add yourself to the waitlist.
This will add you to the wait list (you will be added
to the bottom of the wait list).
Q:
How do I select a course to Auto Drop?
A:
Use the left hand navigation bar and click "Waitlist/Auto-Drop".
Use the drop down feature to select the enrollment
you wish to drop if a seat becomes available in the
waitlisted course. Press "Submit" to finalize
your selection.
If there is no Auto Drop indicated, this wait list
request will be passed over if your enrollment is
already at the maximum.
Q:
What is the most efficient way to manage selecting Auto
Drop courses?
-
Register for up to two courses.
-
Enter your wait list selections (maximum of two).
-
Go back to 'Waitlist/Auto-Drop' and indicate auto
drop candidates for the wait listed courses.
-
From 'Waitlist/Auto-Drop', Select the enrollment
you wish to drop if a seat becomes available in
the waitlisted course. Press "Submit"
to finalize your selection.
-
It is possible to indicate the same registered course
as the drop candidate for both of the wait listed
courses. The first course that gets auto-promoted
will be the only one to use the 'Auto Drop' facility.
Q:
What happens when there is a drop from the course that
has a wait list?
A:
The first student on the wait list will be considered
for promotion into the course. If the first student
already has the maximum credits enrolled and has not
selected a candidate course to drop in order to be
promoted to the wait listed course, then that student
is passed over and the second student is considered
for promotion.
When
a promotion from the wait list occurs, the rest of
the students move up one position.
Q:
What happens if I do not select an auto drop course
for a wait listed course?
A: If there is no Auto Drop candidate course indicated,
the wait listed request will be passed over if your
enrollment is already at the maximum of two courses.
The system will send you email saying your wait list
position was passed over for the course. You maintain
your rank on the wait list, but another student may
have been given the open seat instead of you.
Q:
How do I avoid being passed over for auto-promotion
from the wait list?
A: Always indicate a drop candidate course (an existing
registered course) for each wait listed course. This
can be done from the 'Auto Drops' button from the
'Wait List Info' screen.
Q:
If I drop a course, will I have a chance to get it back
again?
A: Probably not. If there is a wait list for that
course, the first student on the wait list will immediately
get into the slot you vacated. The course likely has
a wait list if there are no seats open.
Q:
How many wait lists can I be on?
A: You can add to a maximum of two wait list positions.
Q:
How will I know when I get on the wait list?
A: The system will confirm a successful add to the
wait list. Click on "Add/Drop Classes" to
see the wait listed courses.
Q:
How will I know when I get promoted from the wait list?
A: The system will send you an email saying you were
promoted into the class. The email will also remind
you to select a registered course as the drop candidate
if auto-promotion happens for your other wait listed
course.
Q:
How will the 5-week classes be handled?
A: Because of the duration for "A" classes
(first five weeks), drop or add will continue to be
handled manually.
Q:
Will I be able to add myself to a wait list for another
section of a course that I am already enrolled in?
A: No. You can call the Part-Time MBA Program office
and have your name added to a wait list for a different
section of a course that you are already registered
for. For example: if you're enrolled in Marketing
430, section 71 and you want to be put on the wait
list for Section 72, you will not be able to do so
automatically. You will need to contact the Part-Time
MBA Program office.
