"My most exceptional Kellogg experience was the Global Initiatives in Management China class. This student-led, study abroad class allowed me to study and visit this economic powerhouse and develop a deep understanding of the culture and the intricacies of doing business there. As a member of the leadership team, I was able to play an integral role in setting the course objectives, aligning guest speakers, and planning the trip to China."

International Learning

The Kellogg School offers the following courses with a focus on international business:

Students who wish to major in International Business are required to take International Business Strategy plus three additional electives from the above list. Each year new courses in international business are added to the curriculum. These courses may count toward the major.

For Two-Year, One-Year, MMM and Part-Time MBA students entering into the program in 2008 or later, one credit must be completed in an internationally oriented activity, either through an academic discipline-based course, participation in an experiential learning course with a broad focus, or a foreign immersion experience. For the academic year 2008-2009, the options satisfying the global elective requirement can be found here.

The Global Initiatives in Management (GIM) program is a cornerstone of the Kellogg School's international offerings. Each year more than 400 students in all three Kellogg degree programs study management and business issues in regions throughout the world.

Designed by students, with the help of a faculty adviser, the courses include 10 weeks of rigorous classroom instruction, followed by a two-week research trip to the chosen country. While in their host country, students meet with high-level government officials and executives, carrying out the primary research needed to complete their final projects. Past research projects have included the marketing of Coca-Cola in Ghana, emerging market strategies for the telecommunications sector in China and trucking opportunities in Mexico.

Students in the Part-Time MBA Program have developed GIM courses to study and travel to the European Union, Russia, China, Viet Nam, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and South Africa.

During the 2005-2006 academic year, part-time students developed GIM courses on South America and China/Hong Kong.
