Graduation
FAQs
1.
Will I need tickets for Convocation?
No
2.
Can someone else pick up my cap and gown?
Yes
3. How many people can we invite?
There is no limit on the number of people you may invite.
4. How does one get from the Jacobs Center to the graduation
ceremony?
We recommend taking the air conditioned shuttle bus that will pick you up in front
of the Jacobs Center. This takes you directly to the building
and allows you to avoid the traffic jams before and after
the ceremony. You may also drive and park at the stadium.
5. Are there parking facilities available for persons with disabilities?
Limited parking for vehicles displaying a valid handicapped tag as well as a drop-off site for persons with disabilities is available at the stadium.
6.
What is the convocation schedule?
12:00
p.m. Lunch in Jacobs Center, Levy Atrium, for graduates, family
and friends. No tickets required.
2:30 p.m. Line-up at Welsh-Ryan Arena
3:30 p.m. Convocation begins
6:00 p.m. Reception at Jacobs Center
7. What time is the ceremony over so we can make dinner
reservations?
The ceremony is usually over by 5:30 p.m.
8. What should I wear?
Some students dress very casually since they will be wearing
robes during the ceremony. Others dress in business casual
attire since they plan to take photos and will be going out
to dinner afterwards. We recommend that you dress in light
clothing as the robes can be quite warm.
9. What should my family members wear?
We suggest that you let your family and friends know that
it can be quite warm during the ceremony. That said, they
should dress with weather and comfort in mind. Nice pants
and a shirt for men and a dress for women are recommended.
10. Is there air conditioning at the ceremony?
No. If you have a guest who is "heat-sensitive", we recommend that those guests stay behind and watch
the simulcast of the commencement ceremony in the
OLC Forum, which is air conditioned.
11. How do the students line up for the graduation procession?
Students will line up alphabetically for the procession.
12.
If I have a difficult name to pronounce, how will the deans know how to pronounce it properly?
Visit the Student Affairs Office before June 4th to record your first and last name as you would like it pronounced by the deans if you have not already done this.
13. I am having problems locating a hotel for my family,
where should I look?
Many schools in Chicago hold their graduation ceremonies
at the same time, so hotels are scarce. See our hotels page for some reccommendations.
14.
Are there activities for my family and friends?
Nota Bene in the OLC Forum. Buffet lunch follows at the James
L. Allen Center
15. What is Nota Bene? Who is speaking? When is it? Who
can attend? How do I sign up to attend?
- What:
Nota Bene is the Kellogg faculty seminar series. This program
offers the Class of 2008 and their guests the opportunity
to hear and learn from a top faculty member.
- Who:
Professor David Besanko, Alvin J. Huss Distinguished
Professor of Management & Strategy, will be teaching
a class so your friends and family can get a taste
of the Kellogg classroom experience.

15.
What happens on Saturday night?
Most students and their families attend the post convocation
reception at the Jacobs Center, followed by dinner in Evanston
or Chicago around 7:00 or after. Often there is an informal
gathering of students later in the evening that is coordinated
with Grad Week.
16.
How do I update my Kellogg contact address for after graduation?
Use this Student
Demographics link to Update your address
and contact information
17.
Why update my address and contact information?
- Without
this information classmates can't find you for parties,
work, reunions, etc.
- Networking.
With all the emphasis we have placed on networking this
year, if you don't
update this information,
it is difficult for others to find you and doesn't help the alumni data base
stay current.
- Staying
connected with Kellogg. Without current address/contact
information it is difficult for
all of us to make
sure we stay connected with you for events in the city in which you
are residing.
18.
When should I clean out my student locker and mailbox and turn in my key?
Lockers and student mailboxes must be cleaned out by 5:00 p.m. Friday June 20, 2008. Any items left behind in lockers and/or mailboxes
will be discarded. There will be donation bins placed near
the locker areas for this use. If you have forgotten your
locker combination, stop by the Kellogg Student Affairs
Office to be “reminded” of it. Turn in your key to Mariellen Gibson in the Dean's office. (252)
