Bob Eckert '77 will address Class of 2014
Distinguished Kellogg alumnus Robert Eckert ’77, chairman emeritus of the board of Mattel, Inc., will be the speaker for the 2014 Kellogg Convocation this June.
Two years ago Bob launched orientation for many of our now-graduating students with encouragement and advice on how to make the most of their time at Kellogg. Now he returns to share a new message with graduates and families that will inspire our 2014 graduates of all programs.
A 35-year veteran of the toy and food industries, Bob served for more than a decade as chairman and chief executive officer of Mattel. Under his disciplined leadership, the toy industry giant delivered strongly against its long-term targets of sustaining growth, building operating margins and generating significant cash flow. He also built a legacy of leadership and people development at Mattel, which Fortune Magazine recognized consistently among its 100 Best Companies to Work For and 100 Best Corporate Citizens.
Prior to taking the lead at Mattel, Bob served as president and chief executive officer at Kraft, responsible for overseeing all of the company's business units. Previously, he held the position of president of Oscar Mayer Foods, accelerating its performance with steady improvements in market share and double-digit volume growth.
He received the School of American Ballet "Corporate Leadership Award," and Business Week named him among its "Top Twenty-Five Managers of the Year" in 2002. In addition to his Kellogg MBA, Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Arizona. He lectures frequently at universities nationwide on topics of trust, leadership and ethics and serves as a member of Kellogg's Global Advisory Board.
