The MORS doctoral program focuses on creating scholars who have the desire and capacity to contribute to the academy for many years through the creation of knowledge. Our alumni actively publish in top journals, and many continue relationships that began in the doctoral program at the Kellogg School. If your goals for scholarship and an academic career are aligned with ours, we look forward to receiving your application.

Background characteristics of successful applicants to the MORS PhD program include:

  • Undergraduate major in the social sciences; mainly anthropology, economics, psychology, sociology or related fields.
  • MBA or other relevant masters degree.
  • Research experience, e.g. in the form of an honors thesis or research assistant work
  • Post baccalaureate work experience.

GRE or GMAT test scores are generally above the 80th percentile.

The department scrutinizes applicants’ transcripts for evidence of quantitative skills. For example, you may list advanced courses in mathematics, statistics, engineering, econometrics or explain other relevant training. You should also indicate your areas of interest and identify overlap with faculty members’ research.

If you have any questions about the Kellogg School's doctoral programs, please contact Susan Jackman, the coordinator at the Kellogg Doctoral Program office.
