BRANDING NORTHWESTERN WITH KELLOGG

As the parent organization, Northwestern University should be prominently recognized on Kellogg School communications. MarComm has developed a standardized type treatment of the university name that appears on the front cover or prominent inside page of printed documents and on the header of Kellogg School Web pages.

Text treatment for Northwestern identity:



Helvetica Neue Bold, all caps, with tracking of +300 to +800. Northwestern identity can only be in black, purple or white.

Location in relationship to the Kellogg logo:
In general, we recommend placing the Northwestern identity either above the Kellogg logo, to the right at page top, or to the left at page bottom.

Vertical:
When positioned in a vertical alignment, the Northwestern identity should be positioned apart from the Kellogg logo at a distance of at least 1.5 times the diameter of the Northwestern seal. There is no maximum distance requirement between the Northwestern identity and the Kellogg logo, and there can be text/photos between the two identities (e.g., on invitations, the Northwestern identity can be at the top of the page and the Kellogg logo at the bottom of the page with the invitation text in between the two identities).

Horizontal:
When side by side, the Northwestern identity will be positioned at a distance of at least the diameter of the Northwestern seal away from the Kellogg logo and visually center-aligned with the Kellogg logo.

At the top of a page, Kellogg should be on the left and Northwestern on the right; at page bottom Kellogg should be on the right. There is no maximum distance requirement between the Northwestern identity and the Kellogg logo.

Other requirements:

  • Northwestern identity should appear with the first instance of Kellogg logo on publication. If the Kellogg logo
    appears more than once in a publication (e.g., both on front and back cover), then the Northwestern identity does not
    have to accompany the second logo.
  • The official Northwestern signature must be used in a publication that is at least 8 pages or longer and should
    appear within the first or last few pages. Northwestern signature usage must meet the Northwestern logo guidelines
    (http://www.northwestern.edu/univ-relations/identity-system/northwestern-logo.html).
  • “Northwestern University” should be part of the address when the Kellogg School address is on a publication.
