Morning Keynote Speaker:

Kent Thiry - Chairman and CEO- DaVita Inc.

Kent Thiry has been Chairman and CEO of DaVita, Inc., since October 1999. DaVita is a provider of integrated dialysis services for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure. Our 29,000 Teammates working in over 1,300 kidney dialysis centers spread across the U.S. Current annual revenues are over $5 Billion. DaVita cares for approximately 100,000 dialysis patients in the U.S. every week, almost one (1) out of every three (3) in America.

Mr. Thiry serves on the Board of Directors of Varian Medical Systems. Varian is the world’s leading manufacturer of integrated radiotherapy systems for treating cancer. Prior Board seats include the Chairmanship of Oxford Health Plans.

Mr. Thiry served as a Partner at Bain & Company from 1987-1991.

In May 2005, Mr. Thiry received the Adaptive Business Leaders (ABL) 2005 “Leadership in Innovation” Award. The ABL award recognizes DaVita’s innovative approach to building a strong sense of community in the workplace. DaVita’s management philosophy has been discussed in various forums, including a Stanford Business School Case Study, the Wall Street Journal and Modern Healthcare. KT, as he is more commonly known within DaVita, has also been asked to speak about The DaVita Story to numerous organizations, including Bain, Accenture, CMS, Bright Now Dental, the Nashville Health Council, KPMG, Abbott, Stanford, and Harvard Business Schools.

Mr. Thiry earned his BA in Political Science, with Distinction and Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University in 1978. He earned his MBA, with Honors, from Harvard Business School in 1983, where he was also elected to the Century Club.

Harry M. Jansen Kraemer Jr. -Executive Partner, Madison Dearborn and Former Chairman & CEO, Baxter Int'l; Clinical Professor of Management & Strategy, Kellogg School of Management

HARRY M. JANSEN KRAEMER, JR. is an executive partner with Madison Dearborn, a private equity firm based in Chicago and also a clinical professor of management and strategy at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois. He is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Baxter International Inc., a $9 billion global healthcare company. He became Baxter's chief executive officer in January 1999, and assumed the additional responsibility of chairman of Baxter's board of directors in January 2000.
Mr. Kraemer joined Baxter in 1982 as director of corporate development. His twenty two year career at Baxter included senior positions in both domestic and international operations. In 1993, he was named senior vice president and chief financial officer, responsible for financial operations, business development, global communications, and European operations. Over the next several years, he assumed additional responsibility for Baxter’s Renal and Medication Delivery businesses. In April 1997, Mr. Kraemer was named president of Baxter International Inc.

Before joining Baxter, Mr. Kraemer worked for Bank of America in corporate banking and for Northwest Industries in planning and business development.

Mr. Kraemer is active in business, education and civic affairs. He serves on the board of directors of Science Applications International Corporation and Sirona Dental Systems GmbH, and on the board of trustees of Lawrence University, Northwestern University, the Conference Board and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare.

He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, the Dean’s Advisory Board of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Advisory Board of LEK Consulting. He is a member of the Business Council, the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Executives Club of Chicago and the Economics Club of Chicago. He is a past member of the Business Roundtable and the Healthcare Leadership Council.

Mr. Kraemer graduated summa cum laude from Lawrence University of Wisconsin in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics. He received an MBA degree in finance and accounting from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1979. He is a certified public accountant. For his outstanding leadership and service, he received the 1996 Schaffner Award from the Kellogg School of Management.

Harry enjoys jogging, tennis, skiing and reading, especially world civilization. Harry, his wife Julie, and their five children live in Wilmette, Illinois.

John B. Menzer - Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

 In March 2007, John added the title of Chief Administrative Officer, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., to his existing title. In September 2005, John was named Vice Chairman, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. His responsibilities include Information Systems, Benefits and Sustainability, Logistics, Real Estate, Financial Services, Compliance, Global Procurement and Corporate Strategic Planning. From June 1999 through September 2005, John was President and Chief Executive Officer – Wal-Mart International. He had full operating responsibilities for all of the Company’s International operations in 15 countries outside the United States. From September 1995, when John joined the company, to June 1999, John served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Prior to joining Wal-Mart, John was President of Ben Franklin Retail Stores, Inc. He also held various other positions during his ten-year career with the company.

In September 2004, John was presented the “Retailer of the Year” award on behalf of Wal-Mart International by DSN Retailing Today. John received the 1999 CFO Excellence Award from CFO Magazine. John was featured in the cover story “Birth of a Salesman” in a 1997 edition of CFO Magazine. In 1999, John led the company team in the acquisition of Asda (a $16 billion revenue food store chain in the United Kingdom). Mergers and Acquisitions: The Dealmaker’s Journal named the acquisition the “Corporate Cross-Border Deal of the Year”. In 2003, John was team leader in the acquisition of Seiyu, Ltd. Acquisitions Monthly magazine named the deal the “Asia Deal of the Year”. Seiyu is a $9 billion revenue retail chain in Japan.
