  1990 alums and family
David Schnadig and Lori Roth, both 1990, and family

1990

Hope the summer treated each of you well. I've heard from many of you about the upcoming 15th Reunion. Seems we're going to have a great turnout! If you haven't made plans, keep that weekend (early May, usually) open for Chicago next year.

Lori Roth and David Schnadig are living in New York City with their children, Jennifer, 7, and Matthew, 5. They report that they love raising their kids in New York, despite the continuing upward spiral of their elementary school education expense. After business school, Lori and David moved to NYC, where Lori worked for the real estate finance group (a.k.a "workout group") of the Industrial Bank of Japan, and David worked in investment banking (a.k.a "sweatshop") with Lehman Brothers. In 1993, they moved to Los Angeles, where David became the assistant to the chairman of SunAmerica and Lori transferred to the L.A. office of IBJ. After Malibu fires, mudslides and the Northridge earthquake (not to mention getting sick of their jobs), they moved back to New York. For the last nine years, David has been a partner with Cortec Group, a private equity firm, and Lori has been a vice president with Ashley Capital, a real estate investment company. Last year they celebrated the birthday of fellow Section 67 alumnus Kevin Scott with his wife, Shelley, when they were in town, and had the pleasure of attending Amy Jurkowitz's birthday soiree (we won't say which one), hosted by her husband, Dan. The couple would love to hear from fellow Kellogg alums and can be reached at dschnadig@cortecgroup.com and lroth@ashleycapital.com.

You may remember that Jrgen Meffert (juergen_meffert@mckinsey.com) joined McKinsey & Co. after graduation. I asked him for an update and he wrote: "Here is a very short summary. After graduating from Kellogg, I joined McKinsey as an associate in the Dsseldorf office. After 1 1/2 years, I took a leave of absence to earn a PhD from University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. I returned to McKinsey and joined the Atlanta office, where I spent 1 1/2 years. Upon returning to Germany in 1996, I was elected principal, and in 2002, director. I spend most of my time in the areas of strategy, organization, innovation and technology management, and marketing. I serve clients in high tech, software services and telecom. On the side, I have published many articles and several books, including Innovation Management and the Handbook of Strategic Management.

"My family is doing well and is becoming more and more independent. Katharina, 20, studies economics. Alexandra, 11, and Niklas, 9 (my Atlanta-born son and an American), are attending school. Patricia, 4, is in kindergarten. My wife, Petra, stopped working after giving birth to Alexandra. She now is trying to decide whether or not she wants to go back to work. We'll see. Life has been good to us. The kids are doing well, Petra is enjoying herself and McKinsey has been a very rewarding choice, even though time for hobbies is very limited. I still enjoy skiing, reading books, music, etc. But the last time I was scuba diving was three years ago. Hope you are doing well. Mit herzlichen Gren, as we say in Germany."

Dennis Kelleher (kellehdp2@bp.com) also kindly replied to my plea for an update: "Must admit I haven't thought about the Class of 1990 in a long while --- 14 years have passed too quickly! In any case, here is my update. My wife, Kristina, and I (married since 2001) have been in London for the last two years. I am still in the energy industry, working for BP as EVP and commercial director for the company's operations in Algeria. It is a great job and gets me to some rather interesting locations --- Algiers and our operating bases in the Sahara desert. Over the last 14 years, I have lived and worked in a number of cities, including Jakarta, Hong Kong, Houston and Chicago. These have been great experiences that have allowed me to meet and work with all sorts of people. Looking forward to a great summer and spending some time back home in Chicago and Boston."

Great to hear from Tom SooHoo, who's been working overseas since we graduated. I'd heard from other alums in Asia that his work had taken him throughout the region, and was so pleased to get this update: "I am currently the managing director -South China forMcDonald's Corp., based in Shanghai. I joined McD's in 1992 after five years with Nike as GM for Southeast Asia. I ammarried to Eva with a beautiful 4-year-old daughter, Alexis. I welcome any of our colleagues to look me up at tom.soohoo@mcd.com.hk on any future trips to Shanghai. It would be great to get together."

It sounds as though life has treated Chris Young well these last 14 years. He wrote: "I am living in Dayton, Ohio, with mywife, Linda, and three great daughters: Kendall, 12, Brittany, 9, and Reagan, 6. We just moved, but only 500 yards, to a bigger home with lots of room for playing and friends. I am with MeadWestvaco, putting in some large SAP implementations for discrete/cpg businesses. It has been challenging, fun and a great learning experience. I travel to Chicago often for a project witha media packaging business." Chris can be reached at ccy071990@yahoo.com.

Thanks to each of you for writing. Looking forward to seeing you at our reunion in the spring!
