EMP-38

Greetings once again to EMP-38 classmates everywhere. We have been a very busy class this summer! Up front, a big welcome to a new class reporter, Trish Lambrecht, who is rotating into the post as Neal Campbell rotates off. Our thanks to Neal for his service in this post for the past three years.

Mike Creech has accepted a new position as vice president of corporate development for Rockwood Service Corporation, a Houston-based, private equity group. He says: “I have responsibility for the M&A activity with a focus on acquiring for our own account, quality assurance and engineering firms. We have 1,600 employees in the U.S., Canada and Venezuela. I have relocated with my wife and son to Houston and now live near the waterfront in the Clear Lake area. The first thing I did when I got to Houston was nail my snow shovel to my garage wall. The second thing I did was hang our EMP-38 class photo in my new office, reminding me of the good times and hard work we all put in.” Classmates are invited to contact Mike at mcreech@rockwoodlp.com.

Kevin Garton writes: “After graduation, I accepted a position with MicroStrategy, the much maligned software firm, and moved to the Washington, D.C. area. My wife, Sheryl and I celebrated the birth of our second child, Hallie, now 2. Last November, after two tumultuous years at MicroStrategy, I joined a private firm called comScore Networks in Reston, Va., as their vice president of marketing. comScore is a Web-based consumer behavior company engaged in measuring the Web’s affect on online and offline transactions. My contact information is kgarton@comscore.com.”

Jackie Kramer sends greetings to everyone from Ameritech/SBC.

Jeff and Robin Felton are expecting their third child. Jeff has become an avid triathlete and was recently in Chicago participating in the Chicago Triathlon.

Steve Goerth moved his family from Vernon Hills to Kildeer.

Mike Odell is running the stores, nationwide, for Sears Auto Centers and National Tire & Battery. By the time this is published, Mike Odell will have moved to a house on a bigger lot in the same school district. His new address is: 914 Jeffrey Court, St. Charles IL 60174.

Susan Amato told us about her abduction by aliens and subsequent return to Planet Earth earlier this year. She sold the rights to her story to the National Enquirer so you may want to keep your eyes out for her pictures at grocery store checkouts.

Mary Bouska bought a new house in Lake Zurich and is landscaping her heart out. Her address is 590 Dunhill Drive, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. The home phone is 847.726.1129. Her Motorola office also moved to Deer Park; it’s a 10-minute commute! Her new work number is 847.862.1282.

Dave Mecklenberger reported that he and his wife had twin girls one year ago July 5. That brings the kid count to four. Fellow EMP-38’er Clyde Rundle also had twin girls last summer. (Must have been something in the water in Evanston.)

Other scoops: Gary Weiss of Group K left his position at Bank One to become the CFO of the Medical Group at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. He also moved to Glencoe and now lives down the street from Kellogg’s Professor Phil Kotler. (Do you suppose Phil Kotler cuts his own grass?)

Tom Sweeney is breaking a lot of hearts by getting married this coming Oct. 20. Tom, we need pictures!

Kevin Ozan of Group K recently spent six months in Sweden for his employer McDonalds Corp.

Which of these stories isn’t true? ‘Til next time.
