EMP-33 have you heard this news?

Sam Liang says he’s still working on an exciting area of “Drug-eluting stents” at Cordis. What Sam fails to say, is that he is now the worldwide vice president for this product group that has had great press coverage. Sam says home life is good, but his travel schedule has increased significantly. As a result, Kelly his wife, had quit her medical practice on Sept. 1 to raise their three girls full-time. Interestingly enough, Sam was on a flight from Auckland, New Zealand to Tokyo, Japan this past August on Air New Zealand. Seated immediately in front of him was Chuck Brynelsen. Sam and Chuck were both heading back ‘home’ from the same conference! Sam and Chuck apparently managed to squeeze in a few hours of ‘catch up’ on the 12-hour flight back to Japan. Sam reports that Chuck is now the ‘big cheese’ for Medtronic Asia Pacific, based in Tokyo. Chuck confirmed the Sam siting on Air New Zealand. Apparently, Chuck also has a personal driver in Japan and Sam reports the car he was picked up in was a Nissan “President”! Chuck says that he finally got his older son off to college and brought his second son and wife to Japan.

Yours truly, Barry McCarthy, and my wife Jean Ann welcomed our second son Mathew Hood McCarthy on July 23. He was 8 pounds, 8 ounces at birth. Both Matt and his mom are doing great. I also recently sold my start-up company, MagnaCash, and am helping the acquirer integrate the two companies. This has been great fun, but I’m not sure I want to do this forever. Bill Seeley reports that wife Grace is in the process of building yet another house in Fond du Lac. Additionally, she’s purchased water front property on the inter-coastal waterway in North Carolina and as soon as the house is done in Fond du Lac she intends to start in North Carolina. She plans to use the North Carolina place for a winter escape. Bill’s son transferred to Raleigh and his daughter is with a Chicago law firm and is engaged to be married in November 2002. His daughter’s wedding is planned at the basilica at Notre Dame where the couple did their undergraduate work. Karl Saunders reports being extremely busy. He is on the Board of BancFirst Ohio Corp. which just merged with UNB Corp. to form a $2.7 billion financial services holding company. Karl has been very involved in the process. Karl reports that he remains busy with Saunix Management, Ltd. and Orthopaedic Associates. Karl has a dilemma, on which he would like to enlist the group’s help. He can’t decide which Harley Davidson to purchase. He is interested in the new VRSCA V-Rod in anodized aluminum, which Karl believes “looks awesome,” but he reports that it’s also hard to turn down a Night Train or Heritage Softail. Karl is looking for your recommendations. Please send your vote to kcs@saunix.net.

Bill Wick has become the world traveler. After two years in the start-up world, Bill has joined Vision Capital as its CFO. Vision Capital invests in expansion stage technology companies seeking trans-Atlantic growth. Bill wrote from Geneva, where he travels often for business. On this trip, he managed to bring his wife Carrie along and made a quick stop London for tea. Mike Iannaconne and his wife Karen report using his Kellogg legal coursework after becoming a reluctant landlord for their former home in New York. Mike has the unfortunate hassle of needing to seek eviction on a troubled tenant. Otherwise, Mike reports that life is good, and his family is healthy. Mike has also been working on his own new business venture. Mike reports that Eric Sklar has been remodeling his house and enjoying his new role as head of the retail water purification project at Pall. Mike also noted that Bob Eidus built a new house in Westfield, N.J. and moved-in several months ago, and that Debbie Dias is still in London. Mike believes that Andrew Chon is someplace in Korea with Samsung, and reports that Karen Morris is still enjoying Minneapolis. Pete Amenda reports that life in retail is exciting, and tons of detail work, and hand-to-hand combat -- especially with the current economic environment. Pete says his family is doing well, and is happy to be back at school. That’s all for now. As always, if you don’t see your name here, I probably don’t have your contact information. Note my new contact information above.
