EMP-48

Greg Genrich and Doug Stang are working their way up the Fortune 500! They both love living in Indianapolis with their wives, and just kicking it and taking names.

Ray Dempsey moved back to Chicago from overseas. He closed on a house in Naperville, Ill., in January, but his stuff was on a boat for a few weeks more, so it took him a while to get settled. He'll still be back and forth to London for a while, but Chicago is again his home base. Reach Ray at: 28100 Torch Parkway, Warrenville, Illinois 60555. Office tel: 630.836-3645.

Tim Schmidt was away from his job at Merck for a while earlier this year. He took some time off to celebrate the birth of baby No. 3, Caleb. Baby and mom are doing great. Besides that news, not much else is new.

Judy Shaw Happy and husband Mark have been remodeling their master bath with marble. Judy says: "I still miss Kellogg and can't believe it has been almost three years. Still keeping the golf game up in Florida, where we have purchased a condo and visit regularly. We visited Crested Butte, Colo., in February." Judy is still with ArvinMertior in Troy, Mich., as vice president of General Motors worldwide sales and marketing, light vehicle systems division.

Herm Stonitch is a proud dad who continues to mildly annoy his friends with hundreds of photos of Bella, who turned 1 on March 31. He enjoyed the Colts post-season run and hoped we would be able to catch him on television Feb. 1 in Houston. He said, "I'll be 'working' the Super Bowl if the Colts win two more games." Sadly, they did not. But we still love Herm.

Wayne D. Lallman recently joined CapStone Technologies LLC in Omaha, Neb., as president and COO. He was also recognized as one of Omaha's top "40 under 40" executives in 2003.

Shawn Carsten is in England, where he reports: "Family is doing great. Every day the kids are a bit more British in their phrases and accents. I had dinner with Alan MacLeod over the holidays. He is now the kids' hero, as he brought a huge bag of Disney toys for them. Nice to catch up with old friends. We keep hoping we will have some visitors so we can introduce folks to London. I'm becoming an expert on many of the local pubs, which are great if you like fish and chips. Lynn has agreed to help cook if we have visitors, as most of the food here is not fit for human consumption. I will do the grilling. I'm not a particularly good cook, but after a bottle of Scotch, who cares?" Love that guy.

Trudy Sullivan moved to D.C. with Charles when she was promoted to vice president of communication and strategy for the American Red Cross' biomedical services (October 2001). They got settled in, and in January 2003, welcomed their first child, a son named Maalik. She delivered him at George Washington University Medical Center on Jan. 10, 2003. She reports: "He was a healthy, hearty 7-pounder, who is now more than 30 inches tall. He has been walking since he was 9 months old, has 10 teeth, and shoots buckets in his Little Tikes hoop. Where does the time go?

"I did not return to American Red Cross following my maternity leave, and have been blessed to have been at home for all of Maalik's first year. I am just now beginning to explore employment options. We are interested in heading west so Maalik can be closer to family. In the meantime, we are loving our home, neighborhood and friends in Georgetown. We have tons of space and welcome visitors!

"Since being in D.C., I have been fortunate enough to have been visited by some Sharks: Sam Yun, Eric Smith and Rick Montoya! William Thornton called a long ago when he was in town, but unfortunately, my former job responsibilities kept me from hooking up with him. I have heard a lot about the baby girls of EMP-48, but my son is one of two boys from the Sharks' study group (Alan MacLeod's adorable son Jack makes No. 2 ... Jo and Sam's Ava is the third Shark baby). Must have been something in the water. Maalik is already scheduled to take Ava to prom. Jo and I will shop in NYC for Ava's dress."

Joan McGrath has been busy. She writes: "This has been a wonderful year for me. My youngest son Nickolas just graduated from CU and is going on to law school. Jonathan is doing fabulous in his career, living in Minneapolis. And I got engaged New Years' Eve. Life couldn't be better. My fianc is Dick Saunders. Dick started Saunders Construction 32 years ago, a well-regarded company here in Colorado. In addition, Dick is truly a philanthropic individual, which I admire. Notwithstanding, I have a new thoroughbred horse named Destiny. I try to ride at least three times a week. All in all, Colorado is beautiful and life is good."

Daniel Tsia joined Imerys last year, a speciality industrial additives company, as a director in strategy and business development. He and his family moved to Atlanta from Wisconsin last summer. So far, they like Atlanta a lot for its warmer climate and choice of lifestyle. His job requires a lot of international travel, mainly to Asia and Europe. He says he misses you all.

Robin Blackburn has relocated to Richmond, Va., to take a promotion as senior business director for the sales organization. In addition, she gave birth to a baby girl named Isabela Helene on May 31, 2003. Life is good!

Kevin Smith left Arbitron to start a wireless venture. He says he is doing well and now has two children with wife Lynn!

Tom Cleves took a new position with IP in Nashville, Tenn., handling strategic planning.

Chris Ricciuti left IBM to become vice president of professional services, North America for Equant, a $3 billion telecom. EMP pals were very helpful in this decision (some he simply imagined what they would do and even that was helpful).
