1978

Hello Class of 1978. Colin Kresock and I have completed our move to the golf course, so I've included our new mailing and email addresses. Please take a moment to mail me a picture or send me an email so I can share your news with your classmates. Also, please check and update your Kellogg alumni profile at alumni.kellogg.northwestern.edu. Kellogg's new broadcast email system now enables me to communicate directly with all of you who have an email address on file. I look forward to hearing from you!

Rick Husty is with United Space Alliance (USA) of Houston, where he is director of contracts and pricing. USA is the operator of the Space Shuttle for NASA, and is NASA's largest contractor. The company is owned jointly by Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Rick has been with the business side of the Space Shuttle program for 24 years, 18 of which were in New Orleans, and the last six in Houston. Rick has been happily married for 24 years, and has two children, ages 22 and 17. He reports that he was able to catch up with Dean Jain and other alums during a dinner in Houston in January.

Joab Filipe Grrea DaSilva writes: "After nine years with the former Continental Illinois National Bank (in Brussels, Amsterdam and Madrid), I went back to Lisbon in 1987 and have been with BNP Paribas for 15 years (where I am head of investment banking). I married Michele in 1980 and have three grown children, Miguel, 22, Filipa, 19, and Joaquin, 16."

In June, Tony Euser completed his residency in family medicine and joined a medical practice in Brighton, Colo. After 19 years in the greenhouse business, 11 of which were in the family business, Tony returned to school for his medical degree. Tony reports that he hopes this career will last for at least another 20 years before he has to start thinking about what else he would like to accomplish. Congratulations, Tony!

Dee Grotheer Hein lives in St. Paul with her husband Wilfried and two lucky dogs. She works for U.S. Bank in treasury management, and takes great pleasure in the local cultural offerings, especially singing with two excellent choirs. Dee reports that "life is good!"

Blythe McGarvie founded an advisory firm called LIF group in January 2003, and now has affiliates based in several cities in the United States and in London. (See www.LIFgroup.com.) She is consulting for businesses that want to improve their profitability through business performance management. In addition, Blythe is a keynote speaker, who loves public-speaking opportunities. She draws on her company and board experiences, currently serving on the board of directors of Accenture, Pepsi Bottling Group, The St. Paul Travelers Companies and Lafarge North America.

John Antweiler reports from Tokyo that he is head of credit risk management for Asia for Lehman Brothers. His work takes him to Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and London regularly. John and Alberta and son Christian have been in Japan 12 years.

Along with his wife Linda and daughters Devon, 13, and Brooke, 10, Mark Bair continues to enjoy Southern California life since relocating from Houston in 1995. The Bairs love California even more since moving to ManhattanBeach in 2002. After leaving the Coca-Cola Co. in 2000 in order to remain in L.A., Mark formed with two other partners a strategic marketing boutique named HighBeam Marketing, www.teamhighbeam.com. Clients include Playa Vista, a new mixed-use urban development in L.A., Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and Odwalla juices. As a result of its work on Playa Vista, HighBeam was recently recognized by the Sales and Marketing Council for best marketing of a master-planned community in 2003. Linda and Mark invite classmates visiting L.A. to call or visit, as they are 10 minutes from LAX and a mile from a relaxing walk on the beach. Mark adds that he and his family visited Evanston last summer, and were blown away by the newly-expanded Kellogg facility!

Chris Gillock reports he is still living in Evanston. He and his wife Connie and his two youngest daughters, Amanda and Sarah, moved into an old Victorian house two years ago, which also serves as Connie's art gallery. Chris' son Ben graduated from college in May (and has a job!) and his eldest daughter Elizabeth is studying jazz vocal performance at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Chris spent the last 3 1/2 years helping to restructure the commercial finance and real estate information services operations of Transamerica after it was acquired by AEGON, the Dutch life insurance giant. His efforts wrapped up earlier this year with the sale of most of the operating units. Chris recently joined Colonnade Advisors in Chicago, a boutique investment bank, as managing director. He is also an investor in Bill's Blues Bar (www.billsbluesbar.com), the new blues club in Evanston. Chris invites all Kellogg alums in Chicago to stop by!
