In January, Professor of Health Industry Management and Preventative Medicine Peter Budetti published “Physicians and Health Systems — Public and Private Policies Push Them Together and Drive Them Apart,” in Health Affairs. He also co-authored “Estimating the Cost of Developmental Services Provided in General Pediatric Practice,” which appeared in the October issue of Pediatrics.

IBM Distinguished Professor of Operations Management and Information Science Sunil Chopra has received the IIE Book of the Year Award for his text Supply Chain Management: Strategy, Planning and Operation.

David Dranove and Mark Satterthwaite published the cover story in January issue of National Bureau of Economic Research Digest, titled “Is More Information Better? The Effects of ‘Report Cards’ on Health Care Providers.”

Kathleen Hagerty, the Mechtild E. Nemmers Professor of Finance, has been named the First Chicago Distinguished Professor of Finance.

Dipak Jain, the Sandy and Morton Goldman Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies, has co-authored a new book on marketing titled Marketing Moves: A New Approach to Profits, Growth and Renewal. The book was published in March and was co-authored by Philip Kotler, the S.C. Johnson and Son Distinguished Professor of Marketing, and Suvit Maesincee.

Philip Kotler, the S.C. Johnson and Son Distinguished Professor of Marketing, will receive this year’s Distinguished Educator Award from The Academy of Marketing Science. The event will take place on May 29 at the Academy’s meeting at Sanibel Harbour Resort in Sanibel, Fla. In addition, Kotler has recently published three new books: Marketing Moves: A New Approach to Profits, Growth and Renewal (co-authored with Dipak Jain and Suvit Maesincee); the second edition of Marketing Professional Services (co-authored by Paul Bloom and Tom Hayes); and an updated edition of Social Marketing: Improving the Quality of Life (co-authored by Ed Roberto and Nancy Lee).

In January, Adjunct Professor of Business and Antitrust Law, R. Mark McCareins, presented a paper titled “Non-Price Predation under Section 2 of the Sherman Act” in Steamboat Springs, Colo. at the National Continuing Legal Education Institute Conference. McCareins was also announced as a 2002 recipient of the Alumni Award of the Washington University School of Law, presented in April.

In January, Professor of Accounting and Information Systems Tom Prince published “Supporting Patient-Centered Care in Medical Groups with Information Technology.” The article appears in the Journal of Ambulatory Care Management, vol 25 (1), January 2002.

Steven Rogers, the Gordon and Llura Gund Family Professor of Entrepreneurship, was profiled as one of the “Top Ten Minds in Small Business” in a Dec. 3 Fortune.com feature.

Mohanbir Sawhney, the McCormick Tribune Professor of Electronic Commerce and Technology, has published an article titled “Don’t Just Relate – Collaborate!” The article appears in the April issue of Sloan Management Review.

Leigh Thompson, the Jay J. Gerber Distinguished Professor of Dispute Resolutions and Organizations, has recently published (with co-authors Kathleen Valley, Robert Gibbons and Max Bazerman) “How Communication Improves Efficiency in Bargaining Games” in Games and Economic Behavior, 2002, vol. 38 (1).

Associate Professor of Management and Organizations Brian Uzzi will be a keynote speaker on the topic of the relationship between economics and business sociology at the 2002 International Sociological Association Meeting in Brisbane, Australia.
