Anand Subramanian has been named managing director at Morgan Stanley! His role will be to run private capital markets business globally, which raises private financing (debt or equity) for companies from institutions such as mutual funds, hedge funds, sovereign wealth funds, and pensions. We will all wait a moment while everyone "Googles" those terms to see if they can call Anand and explain they have always done that type of work and look forward to an interview. This is actually an enormous promotion for Anand and reflective of many years of hard work. It also reflects his professional tennis background, his organization of the Kellogg financial services club at EMP-63, and his ability to curl into a small ball and hide when we have been in trouble.
After five fun and incredibly cool years at Mckinsey, Nikolaj Sjoqvist left and joined Waste Management in Houston as vice president, price management. Nikloj tells us the two best decisions he has ever made were getting a Kellogg MBA and joining McKinsey, but this is a time for less travel and more continuity. His family is very excited to be moving back to the Houston, Republic of Texas, where he can rejoin the very large Danish immigrant community there. We would like to pause for a moment, not since Beth Eckenrode went into the soup business at a ketchup company have we been ready to have this much fun with an announcement. First of all, congratulations to Nikolaj for such a well-earned opportunity. Next…what? We're out of space? Do you know how many jokes sit in price management for waste management….oh man.
Eishen Takahashi reports: "I do not really have an update except for my usual crazy travels." Rumors that it was he who Alec Baldwin was playing Words With Friends when Alec got removed from the plane are baseless. Or can't be proven.
Sumit Mather has a major change on his end. He quit JP Morgan Chase as a full-time employee a few months ago. He switched to a part-time contract and working through startup ideas in the interim. In other news, Sumit's son started driving (which is scary!). Also Roger Gregory and he had lunch and are preparing a welcoming ceremony for Nikolaj who is moving back to Houston. Finally, sales of pajamas and fuzzy slippers have spiked at the mall next to his house. Sumit swears he works from home in a suit.
Mikenzie Sari and her husband Deniz are pleased to announce the birth of their son Oliver. Oliver was born July 22 at 7 pounds, 15 ounces and 21 inches.
Polo Quintano and wife Alejandra are so pleased to announce Rafaela Quintano has born Nov. 28 in Madrid at 13:30 with 3,36kg (figure it out in pounds). We never mess with birth announcements in Kellogg World, so honestly, Polo wrote "you figure it out in pounds."
Hans Van Wees and his wife Karen are pleased to announce the arrival of Issac in time for Christmas. He is a lovely boy and Hans and Karen are so excited.
