Steve Basta writes: "The last few months of 2011 were eventful for the Basta clan. I left Merz Aesthetics (the successor to BioForm Medical, which I had run since 2002) after nine years in the aesthetics business, and have taken a new job as CEO of AlterG, which makes a unique anti-gravity treadmill to accelerate rehab after orthopedic or neurologic injury. On a personal note, my wife Sheri and I moved to Menlo Park, Calif., with our three daughters, Audrey (7), Tula (5) and Willow (3)."

Chuck Brynelsen continues to soldier on in the start-up world at IntraPace, and living in California. FDA uncertainty has made the medtech sector more challenging, but still good.

Karl Saunders expanded Saunix to include not only corporate governance, operations management and healthcare consulting, but also a new division focusing on martial arts and private security. This includes executive protection and self-defense strategy. Karl is a black belt in Kachido Aiki Jitsu training under Shehan Edward Shaffer and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, training at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City. Saunix continues to promote and counsel high growth emerging companies, such as StrikeMark (strikemark.com). In his spare time, Karl is still addicted to physical fitness. He was recently recognized in the Brazilian press for promoting Brazil and its martial arts in the United States.

Barry McCarthy writes: "My oldest turned 13 in February, so we are now enjoying the teenage years and spending our weekends traveling to lacrosse tournaments. My third and fourth graders are doing well and very involved in tennis, golf and tumbling. I'm still at First Data and all of us have adjusted to life in Atlanta. I was recently appointed to lead the company's $4B financial institutions business. Unlike Karl, I am not addicted to fitness, but have started to play golf….badly."
