In November, Roger Linquist '66 was honored as the 2011 National Entrepreneur Award in Media, Entertainment and Communications presented by Ernst & Young. He is the chairman, president and CEO at MetroPCS Communications. Linquist received the award for "overcoming the challenges of competing against the telecommunications industry giants using unconventional business practices." Roger comments, "It just reinforces the adage that if you 'hang in there long enough,' good things are bound to happen!"

Franklin "Chip" Mason '60 passed away on Jan. 25. Franklin worked for Ford Motor Company for 15 years, a job which took him and his family to Italy, France, Portugal and back to France again over a period of nine years. In 1975, Chip moved with his family to Houston where he worked for Raymond International and Gulf States Toyota. He retired from GST in 1998.Chip greatly enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining friends, and he built up a wide social network which spanned the globe. He visited every capital city in the U.S. and every continent except Antarctica, and he kept a running list of the countries he intended to explore. After moving to Brazil in 2003, Chip worked hard to master the Portuguese language and learn the culture and customs of his newly adopted country. Chip is buried in Capitão, Brazil.
