What Should I Do Myself on My Computer?
Faculty and staff are sometimes unsure of what they should try to do
on their own, what they definitely should not try on their own, and what
is in between these two extremes. If you have any questions about
this section, please contact your department’s technical support rep for
assistance.
Most Users Should Initiate on Their Own:
(Or ask technical rep for assistance to learn)
- Install an additional printer driver under Windows
- Install add-ins for software apps (e.g. Excel Add-Ins, Equation Editor
for Word)
- Install software that you have purchased yourself with its own media
Users May Initiate on Their Own Or May Ask for Support:
-
Upgrade to new versions of network software from the KIS web pages
(e.g. Netscape, Eudora, NUNET apps)
-
Install application software that is fully or best effort supported by
Kellogg
Only True Power Users Should Consider Initiating on Their Own:
- Change or remove domain administrators
- Change hard drive from FAT to NTFS
- Use NT "Administrative Tools" other than backup and event viewer
- Add a "Dual Boot" on your machine
- Upgrade the Windows operating system
