Your Kellogg/NU Computer Account: "NetID"
Your Kellogg/NU computer account, or NetID, gives you the ability to check and send email from your NU email account, access to Kellogg and Northwestern online resources and access to the Kellogg network. Your NetID and password is also required to log onto desktop computers on the Kellogg domain, such as an office or a lab computer.
Getting Your NetID:
Faculty and staff are assigned a Northwestern NetID automatically after they are added to the University’s Human Resources system. Because there may be a delay between the time Human Resources receives your information and the creation of your NetID, you not receive your NetID until after your start date.
Once your NetID has been created, KIS will send your Department Assistant an email containing your NetID,and instructions on how to activate your NetID and set a NetID password. The email will also contain other instructions, such as how to check your email through Northwestern's Webmail, configure Microsoft Outlook as your email client, access Northwestern and Kellogg resources from off-campus, and, if necessary, fill out your electronic Timesheet. The email also provides contact information for KIS if you need technical support.
Please do not attempt to activate your NetID in any other manner than through your Department Assistant or KIS.
Changing Your NetID Password:
For security reasons, Northwestern mandates that every NetID password must be changed at least every 120 days. Generally, you will be reminded by Northwestern via email that your password must be changed before it expires. To change your password, go to the following site: https://snap.it.northwestern.edu/it/snaps/unetid.cgi.
If you forget your password or don't change it within 120 days, you have 3 options to have your password reset:
Online: If you set a Personal Indentification Number in the PIN section, while setting your new password, you can reset your password online using the PIN number you set.
To reset your password using this method go to
https://snap.it.northwestern.edu/it/snap/resetwithpin.html
Phone: If you set up the Question and Answer (Q&A) section when you set a new password, you can call 847-491-HELP or 847-467-2200, and have your password reset over the phone.
Stop in: You can obtain a new temporary password by either seeing your technical support rep in person or stopping into the Student Technical Support Center in Jacobs 163 with a photo ID. During non-business hours, you may stop into the University's IT Information Center (Kresge Hall room 57) with a photo ID.
