Kellogg Classroom A/V Equipment Checklists
For A/V Staff Assistant Use
All Kellogg classrooms are equipped with: VCR, video projector, laptop connection, sound speakers (for laptop, VCR, microphone), transparency overhead projector, and wall telephone. A wireless microphone is provided by default in the Allen Center and upon special request in the Jacobs Center and Wieboldt Hall. The following equipment is available upon special request: laptop, floppy drive for laptop, DVD drive for laptop, slide projector, document camera.
DAILY MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST
Every morning when classes are scheduled in a classroom, the following steps are performed by a Kellogg A/V Staff Assistant:
1. Open A/V closet and turn on A/V rack main power. Make sure all sources turn on along with main power.WEEKLY MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST2. Check video projector for any lamp errors. Boot up video projector and play a test tape in the VCR to make sure the video projects properly. Adjust audio volume if needed.
3. Inspect laptop cable for damaged connectors. If necessary, coil up laptop cable and return to floor bin or rack drawer.
4. Test transparency overhead projector and make sure that both the primary light bulb and backup light bulb are working Clean overhead projector with glass cleaner and return to the desk or cart if on the floor.
5. Make sure all classroom lights are functioning properly. If necessary, request ceiling light bulb replacement by physical plant staff.
6. Check that wall telephone has a dial tone.
7. Clean instructor desk/podium surface area. Straighten/reposition instructor furniture. Report any broken furniture to building staff.
8. Erase blackboards if not already done by overnight cleaning staff. Check that blackboard tray has two erasers, two boxes of white chalk, and one box of colored chalk.
9. If applicable, check wireless microphone to make sure it is working and set to the right audio level for the room. Replace the battery if test shows that less than 3 hours of battery life remaining.
10. Turn off the video projector before leaving the room.
Once a week, the following steps are performed in each classroom by a Kellogg A/V Staff Assistant:
1. Install fresh software image on each classroom laptopMONTHLY MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST2. In each classroom, connect a laptop, including the electric, ethernet and sound cables. Boot up the laptop.
2a. Ensure that network connection is live by launching IE and pulling up several web pages.
2b. Check that laptop display to video projector screen is properly aligned and focused.
2c. Check that laptop sound is working over classroom sound system by playing a test video from the web.
2d. Open PowerPoint and make sure the software loads properly.
2e. Check that full laptop screen is displayed on the video projector screen including right and bottom scroll bars.
2f. If laptop requested by faculty member for class session within the next hour, run Kellogg Connect and secure laptop to the table.
Once a month, the following steps are performed in each classroom by a Kellogg A/V Staff Assistant:
1. Clean video projector filters. Check video projector lamp hours. Adjust video projector for optimal alignment and focus.2. Clean VCR heads using cleaning tape.
