Configuring Outlook 2007 for POP3



Overview

This document will lead you through the process of creating a new Mail Profile in Outlook 2007 and configuring it to connect to your Kellogg POP3 account.

Please note that these instructions are only for POP3 users (EMBA 69-72). Students using Kellogg's Exchange 2007 system should follow the instructions here.


Creating a new mail profile and configuring your Kellogg POP3 account

1. Go to the Start Menu, select Control Panel, then Mail.

If you do not see a Mail icon, click the link on the left-hand side of the window to Switch to Classic View.

2. Click on Show Profiles.

3. Click Add... to create a new Outlook Mail Profile. Name the new profile Kellogg POP and click OK.

4. The Add New E-mail Account window will open. You do not need to enter any information in the fields shown.

Check the box labeled Manually configure server settings or additional server types.

Click Next.

5. Select Internet Email.

Click Next.

6. Enter your account settings.

For incoming/outgoing mail server, type in your specific server (lulu, hecky, merle, casbah) followed by .it.northwestern.edu.

Click on More Settings.

Login to Account

7. Go to the Advanced tab.

Check the box labeled This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).

Click OK.

On the following windows, click Next then Finish.

Congratulations, configuration is now complete!

Please see NUIT's documentation on configuring Outlook 2007 to use Northwestern's Online Directory (LDAP) directory.

Once you have configured Outlook to search the NU directory, you may want to configure the order in which Outlook searches your contacts. To do so in Outlook, navigate to Tools > Address Book, Tools > Options.
