Configuring Outlook 2003 for Exchange



Overview

This document will lead you through the process of creating a new Mail Profile in Outlook 2003 and configuring it to connect to your Kellogg Exchange Account.

Please note that Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 2 is required before continuing. You can download it via Microsoft Update.


Creating a new mail profile and configuring your Exchange account

1. Go to the Start Menu, select Control Panel, then Mail.

If you do not see a Mail icon, click the link on the left-hand side of the window to Switch to Classic View.

2. Click on Show Profiles.

3. Click Add... to create a new Outlook Mail Profile. Name the new profile Kellogg and click OK.

4. The E-mail Accounts window will open. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.

5. Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Next.

6. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type:

ksmh01v.kellogg.local

In the User name field, enter your Kellogg NetID as it appears on your account letter (e.g. def456).

DO NOT CLICK NEXT

7. Click More Settings.

8. You will be prompted to enter your login information.

In the User name field, enter Kellogg\<NetID>, where <NetID> is your NetID.

In the password field, enter your NetID password.

Click OK.

(If you do not have the Kellogg Laptop Program laptop, please skip to Step 14).

9. When the Microsoft Exchange Server properties window comes up, click on the Advanced tab.

10. Click on Offline File Folder Settings.

11. Click on Browse.

12. Click on Open, then click OK.

13. You will be prompted to create a new outlook.ost file, click Yes (below).


(Students with the Non-KLP laptop may resume here).

14. Click on the tab labeled Security.

15. Check the box labeled Encrypt data between Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server as shown at right.

16. Set Logon network security to Password Authentication (NTLM).

17. Click on the Connection tab and check the box labeled Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP.

18. Click on the button labeled Exchange Proxy Settings.

19. In the https:// field, type webmail.kellogg.northwestern.edu.

Under the Proxy authentication settings drop-down, select Basic Authentication.

20. Click OK twice. Click Next. Click Finish.

21. Now you need to set your default Mail Profile. Select Always use this profile and make sure Kellogg is highlighted.

Click OK.

Congratulations! Configuration is now complete. Please open Outlook to log in to your Kellogg Exchange Email Account.

Tip: When checking email in Outlook, you no longer need to click Send/Receive. Email will automatically show up as soon as it is received.
