Accelerated Course Options & Waivers

Waive Finance I and take Finance II

Students pursuing this option are expected to have mastery of the material covered in Finance I. Students wishing to pursue this option must secure a waiver of Finance I.

Who may qualify for a waiver?

To qualify for a Finance I waiver, you need to have completed a comparable course at a recognized academic institution with a grade comparable to an A. The type and level of material covered in the course are represented by the chapters 1-13 and 23 of the text by Brealey, Myers, and Allen, Principles of Corporate Finance. You do not need to request a Finance I waiver in order to enroll in Finance 440 (Turbo - Finance I/II). To help you decide whether you should waive Finance I, we have prepared a self-assessment test which you can take through the web before you arrive on campus.

Self-Assessment: Should I request a waiver?

To help you decide whether you should waive Finance I and enroll in Finance II, we have constructed two self assessment exams. Based upon your score on the first part, you will be advised to take Finance I, Turbo, or continue and take Part II. Depending upon your score on the second part, you will be advised to take Finance I/Turbo, Investments (460), or to waive Finance I and register for Finance II.

How to request a waiver.

To make a Finace I Waiver Request, follow the instructions that apply to you:

  • Full-Time MBA students: Please collect from registrar's office your academic transcripts and a waiver form. Let us know which of your past coursework covers the material of Finance I material and enclose a course syllabus with your waiver request. Submit transcripts, waiver form, and syllabus to Finance Department front office staff on the fourth floor of Andersen Hall in the Jacobs Center.
  • Part-Time MBA students: You must make an in-person request for the part-time office to fax your academic transcripts to the Finance Department. Additionally, email the Finance Department or fax (847-491-5719) supporting information regarding coursework which covers the Finance I material, including a syllabus. The waiver decision will be returned to the part-time office, and will also be announced to you as a reply to your email message.
