Non-Tuition Expenses

Once your financial aid has covered all tuition expenses you may go through the following steps to obtain the extra allocated funds, in order to cover non-tuition expenses.

  1. Sign up for direct deposit with Student Accounts.
The Office of Student Accounts offers direct deposit service to all NU students for the transfer of credit refunds. Applications are available on-line here. All Kellogg students are required to apply for direct deposit.
  1. Determine if you have a credit balance.
On your statement for the Office of Student Accounts you will see a ‘CR’ next to the number in the ‘balance due’ section. This indicates that this amount is a credit balance or that you received funds in excess of what you owe on your billing account.
  1. Determine if your credit balance is anticipated.
Check the area under ‘anticipated aid’. If there is any amount in this area, this means that Student Accounts has allowed credit for funds we expect to receive from loans, but the actual loans have not arrived yet.
  1. Request a refund if your credit balance is composed entirely of actual loan funds.
Visit in person or call Student Accounts to request a refund of the credit balance. A check will be ready for you to pick up the next business day, or if you set up direct deposit with Student Accounts, your refund will be transferred to your personal account within 24-48 hours.
  1. Obtain a cash advance if your credit balance is made up of anticipated credit.
If you are not eligible for a refund from Student Accounts because your loan funds have not arrived, and you have met all prior deadlines, you may be eligible to receive a cash advance against the anticipated aid.

Cash advances can be obtained from Financial Aid during posted walk-in hours.

Up to $3,000 per day may be advanced.

Cash advance forms must be taken to the Office of Student Accounts by the end of the following business day to be valid.

Student Accounts will issue your advance by check or direct deposit.

NO REFUNDS OR CASH ADVANCES WILL BE PROCESSED PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES FOR EACH TERM.

Cash advances will be authorized only for those students who have submitted loan applications and all supporting documents by August 31, 2004.
