Financial Aid for International Students

PLEASE NOTE:
Admitted Kellogg International Students may use their eligibility for the NU International Loan as a resource on the application for a student Visa.

What types of financial aid can I apply for?

The NU International Loan is a University loan program designed to help our international students meet their financial need as determined by the Kellogg Office of Financial Aid. Interest is variable annually. This program offers two distinct options:

Option A: This loan requires a credit-worthy U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident co-maker. This option charges no origination fee and the current interest rate for the 2004-2005 academic year is 3.5%.

Option B: No citizenship/residency requirement is required for student or co-maker. International students are required to have a family member included as a co-maker (parent, guardian, or relative; spouse cannot act as co-maker). This option charges a 4.00% origination fee. The current interest rate for the 2004-2005 academic year is 4.0%.

Repayment can extend up to a maximum of 10 years following separation from Northwestern University.

  • Web Address for On-line Application is here.

Application Process: After completing the Kellogg Financial Aid Application process, those who demonstrate need will be offered the NU International Loan.

Eligibility: Eligibility for the need-based NU International loan is based upon the full cost of attendance (tuition, room, board, books/supplies, computer, travel allowance, personal expense allowance, and loan fees).

The Application Process

To demonstrate eligibility for the NU International Loan, students are required to submit the following documents:

1) A completed 2004-2005 Kellogg Financial Aid Application.

2) Copies of the student's 2003 income statements such as an income tax filing or a letter from your employer(s). Documents that are not in English will need to be translated into English and monetary amounts converted to U.S. dollars.

The Office of Financial Aid will calculate a contribution and inform each student of the amount he or she is eligible to apply for. A Financial Aid Award Letter and NU International Loan application instructions will be mailed to the student. The NU International Loan application will be available on-line by May 15, 2004

If you have any questions about the application process please feel free to
