Advancing the Common Good: Strategies for Businesses, Governments, Nonprofits

Abstract

This book aims to help citizens, businesses, governments and nonprofits to make more socially responsible decisions. The standard should be: which course of action does the most to advance the Common Good, namely deliver “the greatest good to the greatest number." Major successful social movements – women’s rights, labor rights, gay rights – all sought to advance the Common Good. Reformers - Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Susan B. Anthony, Rachel Carson, Nelson Mandela, as well as several Presidents including Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson - have used a variety of potent change tools - educating, discussing, debating, organizing, lobbying, legislating, voting, and protest tactics – to improve the lives of people. This book will help citizens, businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits in their efforts to improve living conditions and the lives of citizens.
