This quote is an exact quote from R.E.M.'s song "Auctioneer" from their album "Fables of the Reconstruction" if one simply replaces the word "equilibrium" with "engine." While I am certain that the reference to "engine" must be a reference to an unspecified tatonment process which would converge to an element in the core of a general equilibrium problem (or as Rolling Stone has argued, simply a reference to an iteration of the Simplex method), I felt that the accessibility of my page to those outside the field would be enhanced by making this slight adjustment to the lyrics.
