J. Douglas Gray is President, CEO and a director of Everett Smith Group, Ltd., a closely-held investment company headquartered in Milwaukee. Everett Smith Group has investments with control positions in businesses that include automotive leather, sheet metal, rubber, thermoplastics, urethanes and electronic assemblies. He is Chairman of the Board of each of their subsidiaries listed below.

In his position, Mr. Gray is responsible for oversight of the existing businesses, as well as identifying and investing in new sectors and/or businesses, to position the group for profitable long-term growth and value enhancement.

The company generates annual revenues in excess of $900 million and employs almost 6,000 people. Operations are located in the United States, Mexico, England, South Africa, Argentina, Germany, Hungary and China. Companies held by Everett Smith Group include Eagle Ottawa, LLC; Maysteel, LLC; OEM Worldwide; Trostel, Ltd.; and Trostel SEG, Inc.

Mr. Gray’s career spans industry, investment banking, and strategic consulting leadership roles, as well as service on many for-profit and non-for-profit Board of Directors.

Early in his career, Mr. Gray was President, COO, CFO, a member of the Board of Directors, and member of the Executive Committee of Swift Independent Corporation, a Fortune 200 meat processing and distribution company, having created substantial shareholder value.

Mr. Gray was Managing Director and head of investment banking in the Midwest U.S. for Morgan Stanley beginning in 1985, retiring as an Advisory Director in 1994.

Mr. Gray’s most recent experience includes serving as co-founder and Principal at Braydon Partners, LLC, a senior-level advisory firm that provides counsel on strategy, mergers, acquisitions and implementation. Prior to that, he served as founding partner of GGW Management Partners, LLC, a management-oriented private equity investment group, sponsored by Madison Dearborn Partners, the Pritzker family and Willis Stein, LLC.

Mr. Gray has also served in leadership positions in two international consulting firms: A.T. Kearney and CSC Index. He served as Managing Director in the Office of the Chairman and on the Management Board of A.T. Kearney, as well as led their Global Financial Services, overall global account management, and oversaw the overall infrastructure of the firm. Mr. Gray served as President and CEO of CSC Index, a leading international management consulting firm specializing in strategy, re-engineering, change management, and IT strategy that was renowned for its “cutting-edge” management thinking.

Other professional experience includes Mr. Gray’s position as a Special Advisor to William Blair & Company, a Chicago-based investment firm offering investment banking, asset management, equity research, institutional and private brokerage, and private capital to individual, institutional, and issuing clients. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of Trustees of Frontenac, a Chicago-based private equity firm.

Mr. Gray has been and continues to be involved in various governance roles in many institutions.

He is a member of the International Advisory Councils of Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, Kellogg School of Management and the Fundação Dom Cabral - Brazil.

He is a member of the Northwestern University Board of Trustees, and serves on various committees, including the Budget Committee, the Educational Policies and Appointments Committee, the Investments Committee, Medical Affairs Committee among others.

Furthermore, Mr. Gray is an Advisory Trustee of the Executive Committee of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where he has served as Chairman of the Board.

He is on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and he also continues his membership with the Commercial Club of Chicago, The Chicago Club, and the Economic Club of Chicago, having served on the Boards of each. He has been involved with the Chicago Symphony, American Meat Institute, Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, Leadership Greater Chicago, and many other institutions over the years.

He is the former Chairman of the McGaw Medical Center of The Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern, having served in the role for 15 years. He is a life trustee and former Executive Committee member of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Corporation, where he serves as a director of the Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation.

Lastly, he was a former director and member of the Nominating Committee of the Chicago Board Options Exchange until 2008, and previously served on the Board of Moorman’s Inc., Lone Star Steel Corporation, Swift Independent Corporation, among others.

Mr. Gray received his undergraduate degree in economics from Miami University of Ohio. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Huron University, and he also attended the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business.
