Value Creation & Capture in an Evolving Healthcare Market (HCAKX-980-0)
Value Creation & Capture in an Evolving Healthcare Market (HCAK-980-5)
A narrow sliver of new healthcare companies scale successfully to impact the healthcare system - delivering new models of care, addressing underserved populations, creating vibrant cultures that help employees to thrive, and helping to address the core challenges of the US healthcare system (including improving access and affordability). This course explores how to design and grow value-oriented healthcare services companies (focused on improving the quality, experience and total cost of care - the "Triple Aim"), with a lens towards value creation (driving the Triple Aim) and value capture (economics to attract capital and scale). We will develop a framework of product/market fit, discuss contemporary case studies (with some of the CEOs/Presidents as guest speakers), and explore the critical roles of culture, talent, and technology, including artificial intelligence. The course generally follows the perspective of a practitioner, actively engaging in building healthcare services companies, and the course content and assignments focus on contemporary issues and questions. While the content focuses on building new companies, many of the insights are germane to a wide range of potential careers - e.g., investing, consulting, or advising these types of companies; driving innovation within incumbent organizations; or competing with these types of organizations.
