Academic Positions Held
 

Following his Ph.D. in 1991, Mark Jeffery spent 2 years as a National Science Foundation Fellow at the RIKEN Laboratory in Japan, and then 6 years on the staff in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of California at Berkeley. He joined the Technology Management group at Kellogg full time in 2001.

   
Courses Taught
  Dr. Jeffery has several years experience teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level. He teaches two courses at Kellogg: "TECH914 Enterprise Technology for General Managers" is designed to teach graduate management students technology concepts and provides frameworks for optimal technology management decision making. "TECH922 Managing Technology Portfolios and Projects" is an advanced course concentrating on technology financial decisions and best practices for management of technology projects and programs. Dr. Jeffery is also the academic director for the Kellogg executive programs Driving Strategic Results through IT Portfolio Management and Managing Customer Relationships for Profit.
   
Research
  His research interests include technology financial decision making, ROI analysis, real options, and applications of portfolio theory to technology projects and investments. While in Japan and at Berkeley Dr. Jeffery worked on several multi-institution research collaborations with corporations such as Hitachi, IBM, and TRW.
   
Publications
  Dr. Jeffery has more than 30 publications in scientific and technology journals, including chapters in the Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Encyclopedia of the Internet. He has also developed 12 original case studies that are used in the Kellogg MBA course he teaches on Technology Portfolio and Program Management.
   
General / Consulting
  Dr. Jeffery has extensive experience in design and test of ultra-high speed digital circuits, Internet system design, and software development. He consults on management and technology issues for early stage companies and established corporations including the United States Navy e-Business Operations Office, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Intel, the Federal Government and NCR Teradata.
