Baris Ata

Baris Ata is the Ford Foundation Visiting Research Associate Professor of
Operations Management at the University of Chicago, Booth School of
Business, and Associate Professor of Operations Management at the Kellogg
School of Management, Northwestern University. He also serves as the Chief
Scientist for the start up OrganJet. He received the B.S. degree in
Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University (TURKEY) in 1997, and MS
degrees in Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research (1999),
Business Research (2000), Mathematics (2001), and Statistics (2002) and a
Ph.D. in Operations, Information, and Technology (2003) from Stanford
University. He worked for McKinsey & Co. (2001) and has held visiting
scholar positions at Georgia Institute of Technology (2007), New York
University (2010), and Stanford University (2010).
His research interests include analytical and empirical study of delivery
of healthcare services, sustainability, revenue management, dynamic
capacity management in manufacturing and service operations management.
Dr. Ata serves as an Associate Editor for Operations Research, Management
Science, Mathematics of Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service
Operations Management, Surveys in ORMS, and IIE Transactions in Healthcare
Systems Engineering. He is the co-recipient of the 2009 INFORMS best paper
in service science award. He founded the Operations Management
Ph.D. Program at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University and
served as its director during 2007-2012.
