Risk in Non-Market Environments

Custom Executive Programs

Over the period 2010-11, I taught custom programs on risk management for the leadership of the FBI. More recently, I taught classes on risk management, probability, and biases for leadership programs in medical fields (American Radiology Leadership Institute, American Orthopedic Surgeons Associations, among others).

What is unique about the problem facing decision makers in areas like national security, law enforcement, and public health is that values are not monetary. That is, unlike private businesses where success can be measured in terms of profitability and return on investment, organizations in these vital areas have objectives that are difficult to quantify monetarily.
