Professor Carroll is a Clinical Associate Professor and the Director of the Management Communication Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
As a member of the faculty, she develops curriculum and teaches in the areas of leadership, change management and organizational communication in the school's MBA, MSMS and executive education programs. As Director of the Management Communication Program, she is leading the creation of a comprehensive, differentiated communications program for Kellogg MBA students.
Professor Carroll has also served as Senior Advisor to the Dean since 2013, overseeing a broad portfolio of high priority projects including work on employee engagement, manager development and women's leadership. She is currently leading a multi-year branded environments project that is infusing the Kellogg identity and personality into the school's new 410,000 square foot Global Hub.
Professor Carroll joined Kellogg in 2010 as Chief of Staff, a role she held for three years. As Chief of Staff, she was a key member of the school's leadership team and served as the right hand to Dean Sally Blount as she undertook comprehensive organizational change and the introduction of a new strategic plan. She was instrumental in the school's administrative restructuring including the hiring of more than a dozen senior leaders. Additionally, she spearheaded the external launch of the school's strategic plan and led the reinvigoration and alignment of the school's domestic and global alumni councils.
Prior to joining Kellogg, Professor Carroll spent nearly a decade at New York University's Stern School of Business where she served on the school's senior staff as Director of Communications at the Undergraduate College and an Adjunct Professor of Management Communication. In 2010, she was awarded the school's distinguished Administrator of the Year award. Earlier in her career, she was a Product Manager for PR Newswire Association, Inc. where she specialized in developing and marketing products to investor relations professionals.
Professor Carroll serves as a member of Kellogg's Senior Academic Team, is on the executive board for IGNITE (Kellogg's resource group for women) and is the executive sponsor of KBAN (the Kellogg Black and African American Network). She is a member of the Management Communication Association and Association for Business Communication.
Professor Carroll holds a B.A. in political science from Boston College and a M.B.A. in management and marketing from New York University. Additionally, she has a certificate in executive coaching.
Professor Carroll enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, cycling and racquet sports. Above all, she loves spending time roaming around Chicago with her husband and two kids.

Building on MORS-430 (Leadership in Organizations), this 5-week course moves the focus from mid-level leadership to the senior executive level of the organization. The goal is to provide insight into leading at "height and scale" - that is, what management and leadership look and feel like when you oversee 1,000 to 100,000 people and $500M to billions in revenue. How do you lead when you are only one person and you can't "do" the work of the organization yourself, you can only steer those who do?
To make this perspective as concrete as possible, we will focus on four key behavioral levers/activities that leaders have available to them to shape and have impact within large, complex organizations.

- Establishing a power base ("power")
- Navigating the organizational dynamics of change ("politics")
- Honing and leveraging your communications skills ("talk")
- Building your senior leadership team
The 1/2 credit course will include 5 plenary sessions (2 hours/session) and 5 small-group discussion sections (1 hour/session). Each plenary session will combine lecture and senior executive guest speakers who will build on that week's topic by sharing their own insights and experiences. Discussion groups will follow each plenary as forums for reacting and engaging in dialogue with a smaller group of classmates about lecture content, readings and speakers.
Personal Leadership Insights (KACI-461-5)

This course is a unique opportunity for students who are highly motivated and committed to their personal development and growth as a leader. You will partner with a faculty member and Kellogg Leadership Coach who will lead a small group of students through a series of assignments that will help you increase self-awareness and gain clarity about your unique leadership skills, values, strengths and limitations. Classes will meet weekly for 90 minutes. Each class will consist of group discussions and peer coaching exercises around self-reflective assignments that you must prepare prior to class. In addition, you will meet one-on-one with your Kellogg Leadership Coach for two personalized, 45-minute coaching sessions during the quarter. Due to the self-reflective nature of the course, you will not receive a letter grade, but rather “Pass/No Credit” on your transcript for 0.5 credits. The “Pass” designation will be given if you meet the following requirements: 100% attendance (with no exceptions); on time completion of all assignments; honoring the confidential information of others in the group; and preparation and active engagement in all group coaching sessions. Please note that the 100% attendance policy is non-negotiable across all sections and instructors. Only bid on a section for which you are sure you can attend every class session.
