Understanding Asia explores the political, economic, and cultural complexities of doing business in Asia as well as the managerial challenges these complexities create.
The program reviews the evolving role played by China and India, two countries currently at the center of the Asian economic growth in the world economy. By examining growth projections and policies in the Asian region and analyzing relations between these countries and the U.S., the program uncovers the opportunities and challenges China and India represent for U.S. companies. Program faculty develop in-depth profiles of India and China with the aim of understanding each country's historical evolution as well as the business and regulatory climate that currently exists in each country.
The Asian economy is becoming more integrated and undergoing dramatic transformation in response to China's emergence as an economic power. Understanding Asia will conclude with an overview of three very different economies that occupy representative niches within an evolving pan-Asian business environment - Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. An understanding of each of these countries also has much to teach us about China's evolving international role and doing business in the Asian region as a whole.
