Borders have become blurred in today’s global economy,
where executives are
called upon to navigate multiple business environments linked by
high-speed
communications technologies. Global corporations demand executives
who are at
home doing business not only in their own country, but also in countries
around
the world. In this environment, it is essential that leaders are
comfortable working
in teams with their counterparts in other countries to solve systemic
problems.
These are all roles for which the Kellogg School Executive MBA Program
prepares its students.
From classes taught by Kellogg School faculty who
are well-versed in the workings
of a global marketplace, to opportunities for students to complete
research projects
and elective classes abroad, the Kellogg School gives students
the skills to
lead in this challenging international environment.
Global Initiatives
in Management
The Global Initiatives
in Management (GIM) program combines traditional classroom learning
with structured research projects conducted abroad. For many
students, it is one of the highlights of their EMBA experience.
Students may choose this elective course
during the second year of the program, visiting a location participants
select. The GIM course includes five weeks of classroom instruction
on the culture, economic climate and business conditions of the
selected country, followed by a research trip to the studied
destination during spring break. During their visit to the country
or countries studied, students visit companies and meet with industry
leaders to carry out the primary research necessary to complete
their group projects.
Each year, about 100 EMBA students participate
in the GIM program. In the past four years, students have visited
Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, China, as well as Chile and
Argentina. |
