Becoming a Business Professor from the AACSB
Why should you consider becoming a business professor? There are several reasons: job security, an attractive income, flexible work conditions, intellectual stimulation, etc. Given the shortage of individuals holding a doctoral degree in business and increasing demand for their services, now is a particularly good time to become a business professor. (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business provides accreditation of business school degree programs and is a force in advancing management education.)

Myths and Facts about Doctoral Studies from Beta Gamma Sigma
Survey participants were encouraged to share their perceptions of issues pertaining to the pursuit of a PhD and the lifestyle of business doctoral faculty members. The survey shows candidate perceptions were inconsistent with reality. (Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB.)

Business Schools Face Growing Faculty Shortage from CNN.com (2/21/06)
Business schools are getting a lesson in supply and demand when it comes to teachers. The schools have been competing for students for years as the number of master in business administration programs at universities has soared. Now the schools also are competing for a dwindling supply of doctoral business faculty to teach those students. Major accrediting groups and business school officials say the diminishing supply of people with doctorates in business and the rapidly increasing demand for their services globally have pushed doctoral salaries through the roof. It's also forced business schools to devise ways to effectively compete for doctoral faculty and find alternatives for filling vacant faculty positions. "There are two to three times the positions available as there are people to fill them," said Richard Sorensen, board chairman for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. The Tampa, Fla.-based organization accredits collegiate business schools offering undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree programs.

Is There a Doctorate In the House from Beta Gamma Sigma
Professional, educational business excellence is threatened by a business PhD shortage. There are too few individuals working toward a doctorate in business to cover all the predicted openings in the future. This shortage, if left unchecked, could be severe enough to permanently damage the reputation and excellence of business schools around the globe. (Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB.)

A Few Good Professors: U.S. Business Schools Suffer a Dearth of Doctorates from Arizona State University
A shortage of business faculty with doctoral degrees has troubled academia for more than a decade...the AACSB report predicted that the U.S. shortage of business Ph.D.s would reach 2,419 by the end of this decade.
