PhD
Overview
The Kellogg School of Management, established
in 1908 as Northwestern University's School of Commerce, is
an educational leader and innovator. The Kellogg School awarded
its first doctoral degrees in 1927. Its doctoral program is
founded on intellectual rigor, the desire to develop useful
frameworks and insights for the business environment, and
a culture of collaboration.
The
principal objective of the Kellogg School's doctoral program
is to train men and women for academic positions in universities
where they will create and communicate new knowledge. Doctoral
students are provided with the skills necessary to succeed
as scholars: the ability to think critically, facility with
rigorous research methods, knowledge of the relevant questions
in their field and the motivation to continue learning throughout
their career.
Kellogg
seeks candidates who have a willingness and desire to do scholarly
research. A previously earned graduate degree or work experience
is not required for admission. Most students finish their
PhD in four to five years of full-time study, making this
course of study a serious commitment. Part-time or distance-learning
study is not available.
