First Finance Course: Fall or Winter?
Full-time students have the option to take their first Finance course in the fall or winter quarter. If you are potentially interested in pursuing a Finance major, taking your first finance course as early as possible will give you maximum flexibility in scheduling electives.
Perhaps even more importantly, taking Finance courses in the fall is crucial preparation for winter quarter interviews. If there is any chance you will interview for a finance job, you should take Finance in the fall quarter of your first year. Interviewers look for knowledge of basic finance concepts. In addition, you will likely want to take one or more electives prior to your summer job.
The typical first finance course is Finance I, but you may want to consider an accelerated option if you have previous finance training.
