Dean Jain announces a number of important changes in the Kellogg School’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations

Dear Kellogg School Community:

It is my pleasure to announce a number of important changes in the Kellogg School’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

Effective February 1, Matt Ter Molen will become Associate Dean for Development and Corporate Relations. Matt will have comprehensive strategic and managerial responsibility for all development and corporate relations activities at Kellogg. In this role, Matt will report to Senior Associate Dean David Besanko and will work in very close collaboration with me. A primary focus for Matt will be securing success for the Kellogg capital campaign effort, with a near-term focus on helping me secure lead gifts for the new Kellogg facility.

I am also announcing that the Office of Development and Alumni Relations is being restructured into two offices: the Office of Development and Corporate Relations and the Office of Alumni Relations. The Office of Development and Corporate Relations will be headed by Dean Ter Molen. We intend to begin immediately to identify the person who will become the senior leader of the Office of Alumni Relations. The two offices will operate as a tight partnership, and as such will coordinate closely and extensively, and will share administrative structures. We believe that this new structure will allow Kellogg to proceed into the capital campaign and the Centennial with renewed focus and vigor.

Matt has extensive experience in development at Northwestern, having been with the University since 1998. Since January 2003 Matt has been the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations and Development, working closely with senior leadership in the University including President Bienen, Deans, and Trustees. Matt will retain his current title, reflecting the high-level partnership between Kellogg and Northwestern University in the campaign effort and Northwestern’s strong commitment to Kellogg’s success. From 1998 through 2003, Matt was the Assistant Dean for Development at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, managing all aspects of development at the College. Prior to Northwestern, Matt worked in development roles at the University of Chicago. From 1987-1989, Matt was with the United States Peace Corps.

Matt will be supported in his role by Alice Barda, who will assume the newly created position of Senior Director of Development and Corporate Relations on February 1. Alice will report to Matt, and will take responsibility for the major gift team, the annual giving team and the corporate relations team.  She will also be a key point person with Kellogg faculty in fund raising efforts.

Alice has been with Northwestern University since 2003 as a Senior Director of Major Gifts, managing the University’s team of major gift officers. During her time at Northwestern, she has overseen special fund raising initiatives for the Block Museum and the University Library. Prior to Northwestern, Alice worked in development roles at the University of Chicago and the Cancer Treatment Research Foundation. She also has public relations experience at the United Way/Crusade of Mercy and the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago.

I am excited by the prospect of individuals of the quality and experience of Matt and Alice joining the Kellogg administrative team. Please join me in warmly welcoming them to Kellogg.

Warmest personal regards,

Dean Dipak Jain
