Kellogg School continues to strengthen ties with Northwestern undergraduates; attention turns to future generation of MBA students

NU Undergraduates refine their analytical skills in Kellogg certificate programs

It’s a Tuesday afternoon at 555 Clark on the Northwestern University campus, where a group of students is settling into a classroom. As they fix their nameplates at their seats, Kellogg Assistant Professor of Finance Ernst Schaumburg prepares for his lecture, “CAPM and Market-Neutral Views.”

These students look younger than the average MBA student, and they should. They are Northwestern undergraduates who are participating in one of the latest additions to the Kellogg School’s programs. One of these students is Mingu Kang, a junior enrolled in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

Additional (Kellogg) Insight: Coupling within the Firm; Links between governance channels affect strategy

For today’s multi-business firms—from IBM to General Electric to Kraft—developing strategies and deploying human and financial resources is extremely complex given their highly-diversified operations and globally far-flung offices. How, then, do executives in such corporations optimize these activities? According to William Ocasio, Professor of Management and Organizations at the Kellogg School, and John Joseph, lecturer and doctoral candidate in the same department, the answer lies largely in the degree of governance channel “coupling” in a given firm.
