New Kellogg Web page unveiled

Redesigned homepage and sites for part-time and full-time programs lead series of new changes, follows July launch of new faculty and research area

In an August 1st email to faculty and staff, Dean Kathleen Hagerty thanked the cross-Kellogg team that included Marketing & Communications, KIS, many other departments, faculty members, and students.

She also laid out the following goals:

• Bringing the Kellogg experience to life by showing it in multimedia and having "Real People, Real Voices" - students, alumni, and faculty telling their stories

• Showing what makes us different by highlighting our mission and the four pillars of intellectual depth, experiential learning, leadership & social responsibility, and a global perspective

• Helping prospective students visualize themselves at Kellogg by having more student and alumni voices for them to identify with and making it easer for them to find out about their program of interest and to take action

• Highlighting the Kellogg faculty and their research by creating a consistent, high-quality showcase of their work, and working towards a complete catalog of CVs, citations and papers on the site

• Facilitating easier updates by changing the underlying technology, so we will be able to add new features rapidly and spend less effort maintaining content

Additional (Kellogg) Insight: Does Malpractice Liability Keep the Doctor Away? The impact of tort reform damage caps

Based on the research of David Matsa

It seems self-evident: states that pass laws protecting doctors from large malpractice awards will attract more doctors than states without malpractice liability limitations. Accordingly, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services favors limiting the monetary damages available to patients affected by medical malpractice, arguing that the supply of doctors will shrink in states without damage caps and increase in states that enact damage caps. Furthermore, President George W. Bush has proposed a nationwide cap on noneconomic damages available in malpractice lawsuits.

Yet a recent study by Kellogg School of Management finance professor David A. Matsa shows no statewide increase in the number of physicians who choose to practice within the states that pass laws capping damages.
