Sean Murdock

Executive Director

Sean is the Executive Director and a founding board member of AtomWorks, an initiative of the Illinois Coalition, formed to foster nanotechnology in Illinois and eventually more broadly throughout the Midwest.

Prior to founding AtomWorks, Sean has more than 7 years experience in management consulting, most recently as Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company in that firm’s Chicago office. Sean served a variety of Fortune 500 companies, but focused primarily upon the industrial and chemicals sectors. While there, he developed some of the firm’s early perspective on the business opportunities created by the nanotech revolution, publishing the first two internal documents on the subject.
Sean spoke on the game changing potential of nanotechnology at October’s Nanotech Business Roadmap for Industry conference held in Chicago, and also served as the conference chair. He has served as the moderator at several other conferences and symposia, including the Nanotechnology Panel at Kellogg’s Digital Frontier Conference, the First Tuesday International Nanotechnology Symposium in Chicago, and the Union League Club of Chicago’s Nanotechnology Luncheon.

Sean received his Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Engineering Management from Northwestern University. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Notre Dame.
