Overview

Wow! What a year it has been, again. MBA recruiting continued to skyrocket as the need for talented individuals grew in all of your organizations.

We had over 320 recruiting organizations come to Kellogg this year. This is an all time high which meant that our students were busier than ever trying to interview with a widening array of organizations interested in them.

There were not a lot of surprises this year, with 40% going to be consultants and 27% going into finance. This is an increase in finance from 24% a year ago. Kellogg saw more of its students going to Wall Street firms this year with 23% going into a variety of functions within investment banking firms.

As always, things keep changing here at Kellogg. It was determined during the Spring Quarter that faculty will make class attendance mandatory this school year. What this means is that students will not have as much flexibility with their schedules when interviews occur. We are asking all of our employers to try to be as flexible as possible with the students when scheduling all interviews, but in particular second round interviews.

The other change here is that we now have a second year student offer decision guideline. Kellogg students are to have until January 29 or three weeks, whichever is longer, to decide on job offers. The impetus behind this was the acceleration of the recruiting process by many firms, and students feeling as if they were unable to make a well educated decision on offers in the few weeks which they were given. Kellogg has joined with several other top schools in formulating this guideline.

We continue to be energized by the continued strength of the job market. We hope that 1999 will be as strong and as good to our students as the past few years have been. None of this good fortune is possible without the great partnerships developed with our employer friends, students and the wonderful team in the Career Management Center. Many thanks to all.
