Mapping Your Career During Turbulent Times: How to Make Powerful and Informed Choices

In late February, over 60 Kellogg alumni gathered at the Union League Club in New York to hear a presentation from Kathy Strickland and other professionals from the Strickland Group, one of the country’s preeminent career counseling and executive coaching firms. This interactive workshop focused on crucial aspects of career evaluation, development, and transition for executives. As part of the event fee, the Strickland Group offered a follow-up complimentary one-on-one consultation which addressed each attendee’s personal and professional interests in terms of Executive Coaching, Executive Transitions, and Executive Communications. This was the second time in two years that KACNY has teamed with the Strickland Group to provide their services to our alumni (which are normally available only to individuals via their employers) and the event was again a sell-out. Special thanks to Javed Rahman ’97 and Dan Williams ’99, KACNY president, for planning this event.

Chinese New Year Dinner & Informal Get-Together

On Thursday, February 6, we held two events. The first was a Chinese New Year Dinner.

While getting ready to welcome the Year of the Goat, what a better way to celebrate the new year than by partaking in a Chinese banquet with friends? Alumni who are familiar with Chinese Calendar or not, joined us for a sumptuous Chinese Banquet at a top rated restaurant, Pings's Restaurant, in the heart of China Town, to welcome the new year. This event was limited to only 20 people, but a second event was held on this night.

An Informal Get-Together. In the first of what we hope will be a series of events, we offered an opportunity for Kellogians to get together without parting with hardly any of their hard-earned cash. If you'd like to have an informal get-together of Kellogg friends, without all the bother of reserving a space, arranging a speaker and collecting money, please let us know and we'd be happy to get the word out.

On this occasion, Doug Bell '89 invited Kellogg alums to join him for coffee and a brutal game of Monopoly at the Java and Jazz coffee shop on Broadway. Doug brought the game and everyone was welcome to join in with the only cost being whatever coffee or food you decided to order.

Fireside Chat with Don Callahan

On Wednesday, February 5, the KACNY invited alumni to a Fireside Chat with Don Callahan, global head of marketing for Morgan Stanley. Mr. Callahan is responsible for global marketing and business development across all lines of Morgan Stanley’s institutional business, including Equities, Fixed Income and Investment Banking. A seasoned marketing executive, Mr. Callahan’s experiences have included a wide range of initiatives within Morgan Stanley’s institutional securities business as well as within various international divisions at IBM. The event consisted of a Cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception followed by an informal discussion with Don Callahan, and was held at the Union Club.
