Application

Deadlines

Exchange applications will be done in two rounds. If a student is highly interested in one particular school, we recommend that he or she applies during round 1. We cannot guarantee that all partner schools will have spaces available for round 2. Typically, several schools close during round 1.

Round 1 dates:
Friday, January 20th at 12 PM: Exchange applications due
Week of January 30th – February 3rd: Exchange interviews (if needed)
Wednesday, February 8th: Exchange decisions announced
Wednesday, February 22nd: Exchange contracts due

Round 2 dates:
Monday, April 2nd at 9AM: Exchange applications due
Week of April 9th – April 13th: Exchange interviews (if needed)
April 16th: Exchange decisions announced
Friday, April 27th: Exchange contracts due

Application Process

Students may apply to as many schools as they like. Each application will be considered on its own merit with the other applications for that particular school. Applying to multiple schools does not affect a student’s chances of being assigned to their first choice.

Please do not underestimate the importance of the two short essay questions. They can be very important in determining inclusion in the exchange program.

Please complete the following steps all in direct sequence:

Step 1. Complete the following form
Student's full name:
Date:
Phone:
Email:
Number of programs to which you are applying:
Please rank the order of program preference:

Step 2. Essay Questions

Answer the following two questions, totaling no more than three typed pages (double-spaced). Send your answers via email as an attached Word file to Debbie Kraus by the respective deadlines. The more specifics you can offer in your responses, the more informed decisions we can make in terms of where to place students.

If you are applying to more than one school, please submit a separate essay for each school. Please do not combine your school choices into one essay.

1. Tell us about a meaningful experience that you have had with a different culture. How has this impacted your desire to study abroad?

2. Please state your reasons for wanting to participate in the student exchange program with this particular school or in this particular country. Feel free to add any information that will aid the selection committee in making a decision.

Step 3. Resume

Please send a current version of your resume via email as an attached Word file to Debbie Kraus.

Decision Process

A selection committee, composed of the Assistant Director of Global Study Programs, other Kellogg staff members, and Kellogg students who have studied abroad will determine exchange placement.

Students who have applied to schools that are competitive may be asked to come in for an interview. The interviews are to learn more about candidates and their reasons for wanting to study abroad. If a student is not asked in for an interview, it does not mean that they will not be granted a spot at a particular school.

Although students may not get their first choice, we strive to place every interested student at an exchange school where they will be happy studying.
