Entrepreneur-In-Residence Program

Rules of Engagement

General Rules

  • The meeting is to allow the E-I-R to share wisdom, insights and suggestions with regard to the student's (or the team's) interests or venture. Students should come prepared to ask and answer questions.
  • E-I-Rs direct the discussion.
  • Students respect the time is for listening and providing pertinent information relevant to their venture, not proving a case or defending a position.
  • Students arrive 10 minutes before the appointment.

Pre-appointment work

  • Student submits a list of 5-7 questions for the E-I-R in an email to the Levy Institute by Monday 4:00 PM prior to the day of the appointment
  • Student includes list of team members, their roles in the venture, and links to resumes (or attached resumes)
  • The Levy Institute forwards materials from the students to the E-I-R
  • Student reviews the E-I-R's biography
  • The E-I-R reviews all student material prior to 9:00 AM Wednesday

Appointment materials

  • Student brings printed copies of previous email (team members, roles, resumes, business cards and other printed materials)
  • No job-related materials allowed in the appointment
  • Maximum one page PowerPoint or Word document, whether displayed on the laptop or printed (recommended)
  • Any swag or examples of business product must be small enough to be carried in a brief case
  • Students may not use the meeting to ask about positions with the E-I-R's firms or request funding
  • Please focus on one or two entrepreneurial ventures
  • Please respect the E-I-R's time management choices if the need arises

Post-appointment activities

  • Students send thank you notes to the E-I-R.
  • Students complete any promised assignments within 7 days or less.

Wear attire consistent with your business: business casual or a suit.

Waiting List

  • Students may request a place on the waiting list for a date and range of available times (e.g. 2:00-4:00 PM, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM).
  • Positions offered in order of receipt.
  • As appointments become available, the students will be notified via email and online meeting system.
  • Students must reply by Monday 4:00 PM via the online meeting system and email to the Levy Institute.
  • Same Rules of Engagement apply.
