Leadership
at Kellogg
A key
priority at the Kellogg School is our focus on leadership.
Corporate partners indicate that there is a genuine need for
good leaders at every level within their organization. The
Kellogg School believes that it is up to business schools
to address the need for more effective leaders. We have increased
our efforts in this area by offering additional action-learning
opportunities as well as a pre-term curriculum that specifically
addresses such areas as crisis management and decision making,
to help students hone their leadership skills.
The Executive Leader in Residence Series
The
new Executive Leader in Residence Series brings high-level
executives to the Kellogg School for extended visits with
students and faculty in an informal setting. This is an exceptional
opportunity for students to learn firsthand about executive
responsibilities and to glean leadership insights directly
from senior executives.
Cultivating
Leaders
The
Kellogg School has created several key offerings to enhance
leadership education. Students step into leadership roles
right away with the intensive "Leadership in Organizations"
course, a required Management and Organizations course that
prepares students for decision-making and effective team-building.
Later, students expand their leadership skills and explore
ethical issues with "Values and Crisis Decision Making," which
culminates in a 24-hour crisis-management simulation.
To evaluate
various personal leadership qualities, all students use a
360-Degree Leadership Assessment tool that they refer to regularly
throughout their academic career and in their professional
careers. The assessment tool provides concrete feedback for
the students to develop their own leadership plans.
Additionally,
high-level executives and government and NGO leaders from around
the world regularly come to Kellogg to address and meet with
students and faculty. These frequent visits offer students an
international perspective on a broad range of leadership issues
across industries, while bolstering the Kellogg School's global
network.
Additional Leadership Opportunities
The representative full-time and part-time student
governments sponsor a many additional activities and initiatives
that help shape the direction of the school. During their
time at the Kellogg School, students have numerous opportunities
to further develop their leadership skills through experiential
workshops, conferences
and other activities.
