Part-Time MBA Program

In the Classroom

In the Kellogg classroom, you’ll work closely with professors and classmates to solve problems, build teams and develop leadership skills.

Class discussions are lively and spirited, and participation is strongly encouraged. Faculty use a variety of teaching methods in the classroom, including case studies, seminars, field study, simulations and independent assignments.

In an entrepreneurship class, for example, you might formulate a business plan related to the collection and analysis of surgical outcomes data — and then present your final plan to a panel of venture capitalists. In a finance class, you might learn about Net Present Value through the lens of a new-car purchase.

As you study business theories, you’ll learn how to apply them to your own business problems and those facing actual companies and organizations. Many Kellogg courses include a lab component that asks you to do consulting work for a business or nonprofit. One student group is studying sustainability in support of Chicago’s bid to attract the 2016 Olympics; another helped a pharmaceutical company launch a drug in the international market. As you apply classroom lessons in your professional work, the theories of the business world come alive.
