Global Experience
Global Initiatives in Management
For more information, visit the International Business & Markets Program website.
More than “international,” global means understanding how a range of academic subjects, market forces, politics and people come together to make an organization work. It also means working with people from all over the world on issues that affect us all.

About 30 percent of Kellogg students are citizens of nations other than the United States, and more than 50 percent of U.S. students have lived or worked abroad at least three months. Kellogg faculty members have broad international experience: About one-quarter were born and educated in other nations, and many others have studied or taught at universities outside the United States. The International Business major is one of the school’s most popular, and Kellogg sponsors exchange programs with 18 management schools around the world.

Options for studying global business include:

  • International Business major
The Kellogg International Business major provides students with specialized tools in finance, marketing, organizations and management strategy to help them understand the international dimensions of business. Learn more about International Business courses.
  • Global Initiatives in Management
For many students, one of the highlights of the Kellogg School experience is participation in our distinctive Global Initiatives in Management program. Under the guidance of faculty advisers, student leaders plan ten-week curricula to prepare their classmates for an intensive two-week field research project conducted in the chosen region. While abroad, students meet with high-level government officials and business executives to complete the research needed for their final projects. Past projects have included infrastructure strategies in India, food safety concerns in China and the Olympic bid in Brazil.  400 students took part in GIM conducting research in China, India, Japan, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
  • Student Exchange programs
Our exchange programs allow students to explore business practices in other parts of the world while immersed in different languages and cultures. Students spend one quarter — usually the second quarter of the second year — studying at one of these institutions. Applications are accepted in January and April of the first year of study.
