Mr. Norton’s former positions include Executive-in-Residence with McKinsey and Company, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the McDonald’s Corporation, Vice President of Corporate Technology for JPMorgan Bank, and Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the National Transportation Exchange. He has also held senior professional and executive roles with Grumman Aerospace Corporation, Sybase, Inc. and Oracle Corporation.
As a consultant, his clients include top tier Management Consulting firms, Fortune ranked corporations, several of the leading enterprise software firms, a number of Federal and State Government Agencies and a nationally ranked University System. Mr. Norton is a frequent lecturer in the Kellogg School of Management MBA program where he presents on the topics of IT project management for executives, risk management, IT investment analysis, portfolio management, and outsourcing. He also continues to play a significant role developing and delivering the Kellogg School executive education programs Driving Strategic Results through IT Portfolio Management and Managing Customer Relations for Profit. In addition, he has lectured at the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business, the University of Illinois Business School, and at DePaul University on a range of topics related to complex product development, delivery and operations. He has co-authored a number of original case studies that are used in the Kellogg MBA and EMBA and Executive programs he delivers.
Mr. Norton is a veteran of the United States Navy. He served as an operations and technology specialist aboard the fast attack submarine USS Sturgeon (SSN-637).
He obtained a B.S. in Information Management Systems from Empire State College of the State University of New York, and a MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Mr. Norton’s professional affiliations include United States Naval Institute, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA), the Society for Information Management (SIM), and the Project Management Institute (PMI). He is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and has been appointed a member of the PMI Chicagoland Chapter Executive Council.

Synchronizing enterprise technology, innovation, marketing, and growth investments with corporate strategy is a major challenge for many firms. Once investments are selected, delivering expected investment results and returns is even more daunting. This course teaches the essential executive methods and tools required to evaluate competing corporate investment opportunities, make investment decisions, and implement effective executive performance management of investments. This course has been designed for prospective consultants, and technology, product, finance and general managers. Upon completion of the course, students will have acquired the skills necessary to successfully select and manage a portfolio of corporate investment projects. TECH443 meets elective requirements for the Technology Industry Management major.
